Meet Eva Tsang Vega

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eva Tsang Vega. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Eva with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I have to give the credit of my work ethic to my parents. They have been my role models my entire life and because of the sacrifices they have made; it has helped me become successful.

They came to the United States with no money or even the language skills and have built a life that is truly the epitome of the American Dream. I have watched them open up new restaurants and then close them, but not once have they ever given up. Their final restaurant was a booming business and they retired with their dreams truly fulfilled. Seeing their resilience motivated me to appreciate the opportunities they have given me and because of that, I have made it my ambition to always work hard in my life to also reach my goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I have started in the cosmetology field since 2009 and I have had experiences in many different parts of the beauty industry.

I have done many things such as working behind the chair, participating in New York Fashion Week and teaching for brands like Aveda and Alfaparf Milano.

I am now fully back behind the chair and I have owned my own private hair studio in Orlando since 2020.

My brand focuses on bespoke hair services that prioritizes hair health. I believe in treating my clients with care so that we may have longevity in our stylist/client relationship.

At the moment, I do not have intentions on expanding because I truly love the one on one experience I am able to provide for my clients.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, I have had many ups and downs. My career was not easy and things did not happen overnight. It took me many years to build and many days of the possibility of giving up because I thought I had chosen the wrong field.

The things that pushed me through to continue on my path was believing in myself and my dream, stepping out of my comfort zone and pushing myself with sheer human will to know that I chose the right path in my life.

If I can give any advice to anyone early in their journey: it is to believe in yourself even if nobody else will.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The biggest obstacle I faced was finding work/life balance. I am a workaholic and I never knew how to separate my personal life and my work life. In fact, I usually prioritized my work life over everything else.

By doing that, I started to lose time with loved ones and even worse, I started to lose my identity and when into major burnout. I started to lose interest in doing hair and I became a recluse because I could not cope with the overwhelming need to surround myself with work. I did not know how to say no to things and it was a hard lesson I needed to learn.

The last couple of years; I have truly taken the time out to pour into myself. I started to have boundaries with my work. Although I am so blessed to do what I love everyday aa my career, it was so important for me to have an identity besides my work. I made more time for myself by getting back into a healthy lifestyle and spending more time with loved ones. I also take time out to rest now without feeling guilty. Life is short and time is fleeting; so I don’t want to be known as someone who never took the time out to truly be present.
