We recently connected with Evan Coleman and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Evan with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I credit a few sources for why I work the way I do. First, God. He has given me great blessings and gifts that I must show my appreciation for by working hard during my time alive. Second, my parents. My father and mother both instilled in me the spirit of working for everything. They preached and practiced this principle day in and day out. It was not until I grew older that I was able to understand what I was witnessing. They sacrificed their own comfort to create that for me. Third, my daughter. August 2023, I was made a father and she is the reason I wake up at any hour of the day. It’s a feeling words can not explain. I have to work and provide for her and show her the same example I received. Last, I give credit to myself. I want to be better. I am not satisfied with where I am as a human so everyday I work to be a little better. I owe it to God, my parents, my daughter, and little Evan to be the man I am meant to be—and that takes work.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a creator working to build a brand that represents all the odd people of the world. This December 2023 I will graduate from college with an Art degree and minor in entrepreneurship. I am merging my artistic talents and entrepreneurial spirit to create a brand that creates spaces rather than just fitting into labels already created. Fashion and fine art will be the initial avenue explored in building the brand.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. The most important quality to have is being open. Be open to everything. Let everything and everyone communicate what it is they are trying to get across. Whether you use the information or not is your choice, but at least hear. You never know what idea it could spark in your own mind. 2. Be coachable. Don’t be stubborn in your own ways. Be willing to try different things and learn from others who are already established. Always look to learn. 1 and 2 go hand in hand.
3. Be relentless in whatever you are pursuing. It must start with your desire to do whatever it is you are looking to do. Once you decide, go all out. Go full speed. Don’t be afraid of falling or reaching a height unseen. And no matter what, do not quit. Keep going and going as hard as you can until you have what it is you’re after, then keep going.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to work with an artist, athlete, or anybody who likes to keep their style fresh. Whether that’s fashion, interior design in their living space, or just the energy as a whole. A lot of my work is 1 of 1 and created for a specific person, event, or moment. I enjoy creating specific pieces for all occasions. I am looking for someone to grow a relationship with and grow with over time.
