We recently connected with Evan Robillard and have shared our conversation below.
Evan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I come from a difficult upbringing which allowed me to learn at a very young age what was important to me and how to fight to go for everything that I want from my life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an artist, I’ve been creative my whole life. I’ve worn many hats specializing in music primarily however I’ve had a childhood and adult life filled with drawing and painting as well. I was a music teacher for 15 years while flying around working in Studios as a session musician in my early 20’s ghostwriting before deciding to put my name on things that I felt I wanted to represent myself as in my now 30’s. It would be difficult for me to say simply I was a guitarist or a drummer or singer. I’ve worked as a producer a mixing and mastering engineer. I’ve had a wild life which I equate to my work in classical music in my 20’s which included playing jazz and death metal for multiple instruments, studying composition for 4 years with the musical director of the national ballet of Spain via Flamenco guitar, getting into online feuds with the top artists in the commercial western contemporary music scene. I’ve made a mess of things as well and loved every minute of it. I’ve had my hand in all of it in some way or another and was lucky to have people role model the power of observation and moving in silence while working professionally so young. I’ve seen the hell in the art world which mirrored my childhood which has allowed me to keep the secrets and go places not known by many. At this point it’s just allowing the world to see me that is challenging.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I had my first legal drink in a bar at 28. I was stone cold sober for good reason throughout my journey which gave a level of respect and wieght to my presence as a younger man in my efforts even in exploring the other way for a brief time I have chosen to remain that way simply because I’ve lapped many in achieving my goals and work ethic. Not fearing others success and congratulating them as well was huge for me to have workable relationships in all my affairs. Not allowing myself to be disrespected by anything or anyone told a story of self respect that allowed me to expect the best from life and get it.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents were instrumental for my success. The amount of sexual, verbal, emotional, physical and drug/criminal abuse that happened really gave way to me not following what was popular with the many to focus on what I wanted which was cemented in my ability to forgive them as I have stopped myself from perpetuating the family dysfunction. I can’t say enough about the dangers of not getting help for these things especially with what’s being shown in today’s world with the advent of social media. I wake up every day knowing I make the choice to face the world as I truly am and bear the weight of my life neither as a victim or victimizer looking to regain power from a lost childhood. To them both I thank for this. I cannot stress this enough. The lack of having a “family” gave way for my success. I would not be the person I am today had I had support from the people who birthed me. I harbor no resentment towards them however it is a sentiment I get to share by not allowing them in my life as I age and the challenges of life grow naturally from old age.
