We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Evan Zavitz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Evan below.
Hi Evan, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
When it comes to my work ethic, I attribute it all to the example set by my parents and grandparents. I’m the second generation of my family born in the United States, and the value of hard work was instilled in me from an early age. As I matured and began to grasp the sacrifices made by previous generations to position me for success, I felt a profound sense of duty and pride in following in their footsteps.
Building on this belief, I’ve come to realize that work ethic often outshines talent in the long run. It makes sense that dedication and persistence can compensate for any natural shortcomings. Whatever you lack in innate ability can often be compensated through consistent practice and repetition.
Furthermore, putting in the work means that you are consistently putting in the effort, potentially leading to greater learning and growth compared to others. In an uneven playing field, having the ability to control the amount of time you devote to something is a powerful factor for success that is shared by many notable and influential people.
It’s a liberating and empowering realization to know that you can achieve nearly anything you set your mind to, as long as you are willing to invest the necessary effort. So, I always ask myself: Will I squander those sacrifices made on my behalf or limit my potential by failing to put in the required amount of effort?
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve always been interested in the idea of owning and operating my own business. I discovered early on that my passions and interests are the most powerful drivers of my actions. I learn the most, put in the maximum effort, and get deeply lost in projects that I’m personally invested in. Entrepreneurship seemed like an obvious path.
Throughout school and since leaving, I’ve worked on a variety of ventures, both individually and with a team, learning the intricacies of various disciplines and skill sets required for business success. For example, I’ve delved into e-commerce, digital marketing, and product development.
Currently, I operate a media company focused on content creation and digital marketing, as well as a coffee company, Roasted Origins Coffee Co. Our media company specializes in helping businesses build their online presence and engage with their target audience effectively. On the other hand, Roasted Origins has offered a unique opportunity to interact with a variety of wonderful people all centered around a shared love for great coffee. In both ventures, I’m constantly balancing maintaining client relationships, strategic planning, operations management, and fulfillment. It’s a constant effort, but it’s incredibly rewarding.
Currently, I’m most excited about the growth of my coffee company. Our team has come such a long way in a short amount of time, and we are super happy to see and hear from people enjoying our specialty coffee.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My ability to learn has been the foundation upon which I’ve built my skills and expertise. In today’s fast-paced world, the ability to adapt and acquire new knowledge is paramount. Whether it’s staying updated with industry trends, mastering new technologies, or simply expanding my horizons, I’ve always approached learning with a sense of curiosity and determination.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that the continued pursuit of knowledge is one of the gateway to future success. I’ve actively sought out opportunities to learn from mentors, colleagues, and even competitors. I’ve embraced challenges and setbacks as opportunities to grow and refine my skills. This willingness to learn has allowed me to evolve and remain relevant in an ever-changing landscape.
My ability to learn has enabled me to pivot and explore diverse interests and industries. It has allowed me to wear multiple hats in my entrepreneurial endeavors, from understanding the nuances of different markets to adapting my strategies as circumstances evolve.
Thus far, listening, effective communication, and continuous learning has been the cornerstone of my success. These skills have not only helped me navigate the complexities of the business world but have also enriched my personal growth. They serve as a constant reminder that success isn’t just about individual achievements but also about connecting with others, evolving, and embracing the opportunities for growth that surround us.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
In my entrepreneurial journey and in the business ventures I’ve contributed towards, there have been several individuals who have been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and acquire the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge needed for success. I must emphasize and give credit to my business partners, Newton Ryan & Armen Demirjian, as they have played the most crucial role in this process. I am deeply grateful for their unwavering support and exceptional dedication.
My business partners have been my closest allies and collaborators throughout this journey. Their loyalty and relentless hard work have been nothing short of remarkable. Together, we have faced numerous obstacles, navigated through the complexities of the business world, and celebrated our successes as a team. Collectively, our efforts have been the driving force behind our progress, and I firmly believe that it is only through our collaboration that we have come this far.
Both of my business partners bring a unique set of skills and expertise to the table, complementing my own strengths and weaknesses. They have provided valuable insights, challenged my ideas, and pushed me to think creatively and strategically. Their unwavering belief in our vision has been a constant source of motivation and encouragement.
