We recently connected with Evander Jewelry and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Evander, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose through a journey of personal discovery and creative exploration. It all began while planning our wedding, a moment in life that naturally carries deep personal meaning. As we searched for the perfect wedding bands, I realized that nothing we came across truly reflected our story or the essence of who we were as a couple. That realization sparked something within me—a desire to create something that went beyond aesthetics and captured individuality, sentiment, and purpose.

At the time, I was an architecture student, immersed in a world of intentional design and creative problem-solving. I decided to design a ring that told our story, something unique that no one else could claim. That process of envisioning and bringing an idea to life was transformational. It made me realize the power of design to express identity and emotion in a way that words cannot. That moment planted the seed for what would eventually become Evander Jewelry.

From that experience, I discovered my passion for crafting meaningful, timeless pieces that go beyond being just jewelry—they are wearable works of art, heirlooms that celebrate individuality and the special moments that define us. Finding this purpose has been both humbling and inspiring, and it continues to drive everything I do with Evander Jewelry.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

The story of Evander starts with the story of us, Cesar, and Katherine Evander. We are many things, a married couple first, artists and designers second. We started our Jewelry brand, Evander, right after we got married as a new artistic and entrepreneurial venture. Since then, we have designed many works of art and are preparing for the launch of our Prelude Collection. Initially, we will be making our exclusive first capsule available in very limited quantities in July 2024 on EvanderJewelry.com. We are also organizing Miami collector events throughout the year, including a Miami Art Week exhibition in Miami Beach.
Each piece we design really pays homage to a memory, story, or place that was formative to our identity as Evander. When we think of who Evander collectors are, they have a strong sense of personal expression and authenticity, something that is lacking in mass-produced jewelry.
To our collectors, we are a design house, a living designer brand, and artists who make creations for people who are the protagonists of their respective disciplines.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

For us, the most important thing was understanding each other’s strengths. When your significant other is also your business partner and co-creator it’s important not to step on toes and to truly harness each other’s gifts. Katherine’s training was in architectural design and her grandmother was a renowned local artist in Santiago, Cuba, so design is in her blood. Cesar has a talent for communication and developing the narratives that inspired many of our creations and brand
.
For those considering embarking on a project with their spouse, it is important to work as a team and celebrate each other’s differences. Two people doing the same job are one too many.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

Many. However, the biggest challenge we face nowadays is reaching collectors. In a sea of mass-produced jewelry and fast fashion, as well as “fast-art”, Evander is different. Unlike Cartier, Van Cleef, or other design houses founded by illustrious designers who are no longer with us; Evander is a living and breathing design house led by two artists creating new works of art every day. It is something both rare and an oddity. Wearing an Evander creation is about rejecting conformity and seeking authenticity. Each creation we design is either one-off or limited to only 50.

So, while reaching our collectors is a challenge, it’s an existential requirement for us.
