We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Evonne Young a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Evonne , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by going through a very dark time in my life. As a trained mental health therapist, I could help everyone else but struggled to dig my own self out of the pit that I was now buried. It was like I was living outside of my body simply going through the motions on autopilot. I would have brightest smile on the outside and was miserable on the inside. I felt as though this was the destiny for my life and had to accept things for what I thought they were. One day I was driving to work, and I had an epiphany. It was time to create a new narrative for myself. It was at that time., I started investing in myself with coaches and mentors and discovered my purpose of being a Mindfulness Women’s Empowerment and Mental Health Wellness Coach , facilitator, public speaker and author. I help women to find their purpose through empowerment and clarity . Your past does not have to dictate your future. You can always rewrite your life’s narrative and that is exactly what I did and have become the best version of myself and help others to become theirs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am currently employed with Dept. of Mental. Health as the Intensive Community Treatment Supervisor . I work with the sickest of the sickest chronically and persistent mental health population. I go into their homes and work with those individuals on psychosocial rehabilitative skills and to become more stable and viable in the community following a major psychotic episode.
I am also the owner of Creative LIfe Journies, LLC where work with work with to gain clarity and purpose for gaining mental health wellbeing and wellness. I use mindfulness tool to assist women with becoming more empowered in become the best version of themself. I am also the organizer and visionary of Hope Begins with Me: Mental Health and Wellness Conference that brings awareness to reducing the stimga around mental health along with provide hope to those that feel as though they can not persevere after a traumatic event.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Accountability
Creativity
Empowerment

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
There are so many people that have helped me on overcome major challenging hurtles on my journey to success that it is hard to name just one particular person. However, the one individual that stands out to me the most and really opened my awareness to living a life in a better version of myself would have to be Pastor Keith Battles. I was in Glenarden, MD visiting a friend and I attended church with her the last Sunday of 2018. Pastor Battles was the guest speaker at The FIrst Baptist Church of Glenarden. His message was entitled “ No more Excuses “. It was at that moment that if I didn’t stop making excuses that I was going to lose out on what God had for me. I began tapping into my greater self and began my journey of professional/ personal development.
