We recently connected with Eyal Alfandary and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eyal, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I actually learnt that from my parents. They always taught me that if I have something to do, it’s best to do it right away and then you’ll be able to do other stuff because I know that I finished with the things that I have to do. It also comes from the place that I want to be perfect and that I want to be the best version of myself so I’m always working super hard. Right now, in acting school that I’m in, I’m always learning my lines straight away because I want to be ready. I’m always turning in the assignments as soon as possible. I always wanted to be an actor so I’m taking everything really serious and working super hard. It is really important for me so I’m doing the best I can.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actor. I’ve been doing acting since I was 6 years old. I’m currently in acting school in Los Angeles at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I’m originally from Israel. I’ve studied acting in Israel from a very early age. I was on stage since I remember myself. In musicals, with my band, in plays and more. It was always my biggest passion to become an actor so it was my highlight of my life and it still is. I was lately in 2 short films and a play as the leading role. I was so happy to be in these projects. I always knew that I willlive in Los Angeles, so after I finished the army in Israel as a photographer and an actor, I moved to Los Angeles to peruse my dream.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first one is determination. You just need to believe in yourself no matter what. No matter what people tell you, you need to keep trying until it’s going to happen. You need to see your goal and to do everything to achieve it and to think about anything that you can do to get there. The second one is hard work. If you don’t work hard there is no way that it’s going to happen. It means spending hours and hours until you get what you want. You just need to put everything else aside and just do the work.
The third thing is to believe in yourself. You must believe in yourself and imagine yourself doing what you’re dreaming of doing. And do not listen to people that saying that it’s impossible or it’s not going to happen. You just need to trust yourself and to keep believing and at the end it’s going to work.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that inspired me the most called “An Actor Prepares” by Konstantin Stanislavski. I’ve learned so much about acting from this book. He’s saying there so manyimportant things about acting. First of all, that you need to know how to explore the character and how to find the connection between you as the actor and the character. Youneed to find what’s real in the character life and to apply it to your life. Specific gesture that the character has, and you as the actor need to find in your life. It is so fascinating and inspiring, and I couldn’t stop reading this book.
