Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to F. G. Keel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
F. G., so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I love this question because it’s not something you just overcome and it goes away. Imposter syndrome is something I must deal with periodically and keep overcoming. To do that, I rely on colleagues, friends, family, and most importantly, myself. I just keep working hard and trusting in my talent and ability. Like with anything, your belief in yourself will constantly waver, but knowing that so many deal with this—many who are wildly successful—helps to know you’re not alone in the struggle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an independent author who loves writing and the thrill (and panic) of sharing my fictional stories with the world. To be able to make someone feel emotions (joy, pain, fright, etc.) through my work is the ultimate reward and keeps me motivated. I’m releasing my second book, Trimble Hollow, on January 28th. It’s a timely thriller about overcoming self-doubt and finding the strength to protect loved ones against a malicious threat.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first important quality is work ethic. Nothing comes easy in this world, and the harder and smarter you work, the more you increase your odds of success. The second is relationship building. There’s an entire community of people out there who can (and want) to help you achieve your dreams; you just need to find them. The third quality is perseverance. It’s incredibly difficult to reach your goals and you never want to be part of the reason you come up short.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed is something most of us can relate to. And coping mechanisms for it vary, depending on the person. For me, I need quality time away from my stressors, whether it’s work or the outside world in general That time usually involves reading, hiking, or some other activity where I can turn off part of my mind and just escape. I also take time to enjoy and appreciate the simple things—they truly do mean a lot.
