Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fady Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fady, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from not paying attention to the hardships that I go through. It’s my ability to bounce back when life throws me curveballs. So, where does it come from? Well, I tend to think of it like a mix of life experiences, support from loved ones, and a sprinkle of self-belief.
First off, those tough times are like the gym for my resilience muscle (or willpower). Each challenge I face, whether big or small, helps me grow stronger and more resilient.
Then there’s the support—my friends, family, mentors, and anyone who’s got my back. They’re like the cheerleaders on the sidelines, giving me that extra boost of encouragement when I need it most.
And let’s not forget about believing in oneself. That’s a huge part of it! Having faith in my abilities, knowing I can handle whatever comes my way, that’s like having a shield against doubt and negativity.
I wasn’t born with resilience but I had to cultivate it through experience, those I surround myself with and my inner belief. It’s what helps me keep going, keep creating, and keep shining, even when the going gets tough.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a CPA/Auditor as my main career, and I am a photographer on the side. I feel very special to have the chance to combine both endeavors since they are drastically different and simultaneously allow me to push myself in different directions of expression.
Most of my photography is based on showing the viewer how that one specific moment felt – as if they were there with me capturing that specific frame. Seeing it and feeling it with me. Photography to me represents self-expression with no boundaries, and without the need to fill a specific void; I can take a picture any where any time. And that in and of itself gives me freedom. More often than not, we are bound by specific rules/laws, but my photos allow me to escape; and I hope it does the same for my viewers.
I am currently working on releasing a few of my urban photos on metal and paper prints (limited editions)! The ones I initially had were sold out between friends and family so I am restocking and will get those ready for online sales soon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three areas that were most impactful in my journey were practice, patience, and consistency.
Firstly, as they say “practice makes perfect” and certainly no one can achieve anything without practice. I keep taking photos everywhere I go because that’s practice. Good photos or bad photos; it doesn’t matter. What matters is the practice.
Secondly, patience is key to gain knowledge. I learned the hard way that with practice needs patience. The first few photos I took were not the best and I almost gave up, but with patience, I allowed myself the time to practice. It’s all that matters. I had to stay patient with the learning until I was able to show myself that “hey, I got this!”
Finally, consistency, is the cornerstone for the above areas. Without showing consistency in my patience and my practice, I would not be here today. And that is my ultimate piece of advice to anybody; stay consistent and it will pay off. First few steps are small and short, but once you get it, you’ll see yourself walking in strides and ultimately, running.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Although I have not collaborated with many artists before, I am looking to start delving into that a bit more.
With potential collaborators, I hope to find those who share the following qualities:
-passion for photography,
-reliability with scheduling,
-artistic and creative compatibility,
-direct communication,
-professionalism in their approach, and
-possess an outlook of mentor/mentee relationship to all of their collaborations.
