Meet Faelan Shiva

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Faelan Shiva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Faelan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I was born different than those around me. I felt that I could speak with Nature herself, and her unseen spirits. I saw and heard things other people didn’t. I had distinct past life memories of temples. And most importantly, I had a drive to serve Source (whether folks want to call that God/Goddess/Spirit/Universe).

After a very strict religious upbringing and a need to hide my gifts to survive my childhood, I left home confused and lost. I fell into all kinds of bad habits and bad company looking for answers, and perhaps trying to hide from my purpose.

After a near death experience at age 24, I had a distinct understanding that my purpose was more important than my melancholic despair, and I needed to find my way to it.

At age 27 I moved into a Buddhist Ashram for over 6 years, and this really gave me the structure, discipline, and devotion that I craved. It gave me a strong sense of purpose, but after 13 years of dedication, I had to acknowledge that it wasn’t MY purpose.

My purpose is about the spirituality of Nature and the healing and empowerment of women (or any other oppressed folks) who are drawn to live a magical life but don’t remember how, or more commonly….are terrified to do so! I went on a quest to train myself in the traditions of my Celtic Ancestors as best I could, and that sent me on a long journey home to myself.

So, it was a messy and difficult way to my purpose. There was pain, there was challenge. But ultimately, I could not not deny the still, small voice inside me guiding me home. The bravery to listen to that voice and allow my purpose to emerge was the hardest part. But absolutely worth it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My work is dedicated to holding a lantern of guidance and support on folks’ spiritual journey. I am especially dedicated to helping folks remember that they are part of Nature, and that all we need to do is to remember ourselves.

I use Astrology, Tarot, sound healing, sacred dance, meditation, mentorship, and dedicated Priestess (Or Priest or Priestx) training to meet folks at the level of healing, empowerment, and devotion that fits them best.

Astrology is a powerful tool to help folks understand the map of their soul quest. It can also identify big themes in life transitions. I love that Astrology shows people how they were never meant to be like everyone else, and how to embrace their personal gifts and work with recurring challenges.

Sound healing and sacred dance are powerful ways to embody our healing journey, to connect with our authentic selves and with Source, and to find bold expression of our creative force.

Some folks are called to have devoted and structured spiritual practices to support their lives and to help them stand strong in their purpose. I offer different levels of mentorship and initiation to support this on the terms that feel best to the Seeker.

Meditation is the key to everything. Give me 5 minutes with anyone and it will enter the conversation. Developing presence and the ability to respond from stillness is radical self-empowerment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The ability and commtiment to learn.
Open mindedness – the Universe is vast and there is no way any one of us can really understand it. I encourage and enjoy views and experiences other than my own, and love to learn from them. Or to decide they are not for me.
To follow my path with heart, and the faith that it will lead me in the right direction.

Find a teacher you resonate with and study with them as much as possible. You will go much farther developing a strong foundation in a path that feels true to you, than to worry that you need to learn all the things at once, or study with everyone.

Paradox is part of life. It’s ok if people think differently than you, and more than one thing can be true at once.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

My biggest obstacle to my work at this time is visibility. Integrity in the work that I offer is of utmost importance, but trying to get my work out there is such a challenge. I am a small woman owned business and don’t have a marketing budget. DIY marketing takes so much time, energy and focus. I do it because it is necessary and I am proud of my work. I want people to find my work. But the marketing part is not MY purpose. I get frustrated about that!
