We recently connected with Faith Barker and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Faith, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence first by learning to believe in myself and know my worth. I also surround myself with family and friends who encourage and support me. Your circle of friends matters. If you surround yourself with people who lift you up and want to see you succeed then you will be able to do more.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the managing director of girls in tech Nashville. Girls in tech is a global organization that helps to close the gender and pay gap for women in tech. I love to come along side other women and help them on their tech journey. Its great to be able to show women all the different opportunities there are in tech and help them find there place.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three skills are never stop learning, seek advice from others and don’t be afraid to explore your options. I would tell someone who is moving into tech that tech is everywhere. Explore your options and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I take a walk or listen to music and just breathe. I know it probably seems silly sometimes but just practicing breathing and taking a walk can help you refocus. Figure out what helps you clam yourself so you can refocus.
