Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Faith Chan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Faith, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I gained resilience as a freelance copywriter after doing whatever it took to secure my first high-paying client. When I left my 9-5 engineering job to start my copywriting business, I struggled to land freelance clients for the first 3 months. I tried every client acquisition method that was recommended to me: cold emails, posting social media content, and networking. None of these methods worked for me at the time. Because I was running out of time to make this work, I had to think beyond what was recommended to me. That’s when I decided to try Upwork despite all horror stories I heard about the platform. After landing my first 2 clients and making over $1000 on each project, I knew I was onto something. After continuing to the use Upwork for the next 3 months, I became fully booked with 4 clients and making over $7k that month. What I learned from this experience is that if you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way to make it work. I wanted to start a freelance business that gives me the freedom and flexibility to work from anywhere in the world. People can hate Upwork all they want. But at the end of the day, I needed a way to get my foot in the door. Upwork turned out to be the stepping stone I needed, and I have no regrets making that decision.

As a former engineer turned copywriter and business coach, I’m here to help entrepreneurs, especially new coaches and service providers, develop the skills needed to turn their high-income skills into a profitable online business. If there’s anything I learned from starting 2 online businesses, it’s that it’s never been easier to start making serious money online. As a copywriter, I’ve written engaging sales content for over 30 entrepreneurs to help them generate leads and sales. As a business coach, I’ve given masterclasses and coached freelancers 1:1 to help them secure consistent high-paying clients on Upwork. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Self-Worth: Not only do you have to believe that you are highly skilled and experienced in your field, you also have to believe there are people out there who value your unique set of skills and want *exactly* what you have to offer. You just have to be patient enough to find them.
2. Relationships: I believe the most successful entrepreneurs always prioritize building relationships over making a quick buck. If you take the time to understand what matters most to your clients and offer solutions that’ll help them overcome their pain and fulfill their dreams, money becomes a natural byproduct of your efforts.
3. Perseverance: If you listen to any entrepreneurial success story, you learn quickly that success never happens overnight. When I launched each of my online businesses, I didn’t make my first big break until about 3 months in. For others, it takes longer, and that’s OK. You can only fail if you decide to give up.
