Meet Faith Spicer

We were lucky to catch up with Faith Spicer recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Faith, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

How I overcame imposter syndrome isn’t exactly an easy or short answer. It’s also something I don’t think I will ever fully move past. There are still moments where I question myself and my ability….”should I be doing this?? Can I do this? Am I worthy of this?” One thing that made me realize my worth, ability, and power is trauma therapy and working through all the situations and people that made me feel unworthy or small. Once I felt more confident and solid with who I was, I started pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone and do things that scared me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My story has a few different layers to it. As a hairstylist, I always knew I wanted to help people beyond just their appearance. I wanted to support their overall well-being. I wasn’t sure where to start or even what I wanted to do. My self confidence kept me from moving further with anything and for a long time I wasn’t even sure who I was. I just knew I was pretending to be what society looked at as “perfect.”

During the pandemic, I began my healing journey, which led me to explore energy work like Reiki. After having my first life-changing experience with Reiki I knew I wanted to learn everything I could and incorporate it in my profession to help clients. This is when I really started struggling with imposter syndrome, wondering if I was qualified or experienced enough to guide others on such a personal path and wondering, “who am I to be doing this work?”

That time of reflection wasn’t just professional, it became deeply personal. I uncovered parts of myself I had suppressed, including my spiritual/witchy side and even the truth about my sexuality. Embracing my full identity helped me release the fear of not being ‘enough’ and allowed me to show up more authentically in every aspect of my life, even though it was absolutely terrifying.

My own transformation gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to heal, and that firsthand experience allows me to hold space for others with empathy and authenticity. Rather than waiting to feel ‘perfectly qualified,’ I started trusting that my story and my heart-centered approach were powerful tools for helping others. I knew I had to keep getting out of my comfort zone to grow or else I was going to stay stagnant. I took a major step by hosting my first weekend women’s retreat focusing on inner child healing, along with my good friend, Nikki. We had 10 amazing women come, which was more than I expected! It was a transformative experience—not just for the women who attended, but for me as well. It reinforced that my role wasn’t to ‘heal’ others, but to guide and support them as they embark on their own healing journey. I use the word ‘healer’ loosely because I believe true healing is something we all do for ourselves. I’m simply here to hold space and offer tools to help others reconnect with their own power, just as I did. We are now currently planning our next retreat this September in Deep Creek, MD.

That retreat gave me the confidence to take an even bigger leap to do what I’ve always dreamed of. I left my job to open my own full-service salon, Moon & Mane Hair Haven, where I could combine hairstyling with Reiki and other healing modalities. I partnered with my friend, Becca Carl, who owns Vintage Grace Boutique, and recently brought in my sister, Syerra Grimm, who is an amazing esthetician. Together we are creating a space where people feel seen, heard, and empowered. I realized that my journey, with all its twists and self-discoveries, was preparing me to create something deeply meaningful for others.

Today, I no longer let imposter syndrome hold me back. I trust that my personal and professional experiences allow me to connect with clients in a way that goes beyond the surface. My journey taught me that there’s no ‘perfect’ moment when you suddenly feel ready. You grow by stepping into the unknown, trusting yourself, and staying open to the process. That’s the energy I bring to my work and my salon every day, a place where people can feel empowered to embrace their true selves and begin their own healing journey. So, I challenge you, to do something that scares you. Because you are worthy and you are capable.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

First, getting to know and love myself had a huge impact. I no longer wanted to hide who I truly was. Doing more things for me and cutting out the people pleasing aspect. Then trusting and getting in tune with a higher power also helped me move to the next level in overcoming imposter syndrome. This can mean something different for everyone too. Lastly, thinking positive and surrounding yourself with uplifting and likeminded people is also a must. People who inspire you to keep going and do better.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is anyone! I welcome all genders, all religions, and all walks of life. I believe in creating an inclusive, judgment-free space where everyone feels comfortable and empowered. Whether you’re just beginning your self-care journey or looking to elevate it, I’m here to support you. All I ask is that you come with an open mind and a willingness to embrace positive change!
