We were lucky to catch up with Faith Villegas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Faith, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I overcame imposter syndrome when I made two very important realizations. Number one, I have a gift that God has given me. Nobody else has a gift like mine. They may have a similar career path, but ultimately they are not me. Number two, when I tell my self internally that my work or my efforts are not good enough, I am ultimately telling God that I have doubt in his gift and his ability to help me be successful. That the blessings and talents he has bestowed upon me are insufficient compared to my feelings. When I made these realizations I started checking myself regularly, reminding myself that my work is unique, and I will end up right where God wants me. No it won’t be for everyone, but it will be enough for the right person.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Faith Villegas, I am 20 years old and I am a small business owner. I am a wife to my husband Danny. I am from Raleigh, North Carolina. Professionally, I own an event and wedding planning business and a health and beauty partnership. With that I am a mindset mentor and a content creator.
My main career is my event planning business. My favorite part about this business is serving others, helping their needs. We are an all inclusive, faith-based company. The name of the business is called A Faithful Mark, which is actually named after my father who passed away September of 2021.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the three qualities or skills that were most impactful on this journey were patience, dedication, and being assertive. My advice to those who may be on their journey to success is keep these three things in mind. Success doesn’t happen overnight. It may be a hard, laboring journey but it’s worth it. Not only do you need to have patience with yourself but with the process. You need to have the dedication and the will to keep going. To jump in with both feet and not back down when times are hard. Use it as a motivation to keep going. Lastly, being assertive knowing what you want and how to get there. Also, seizing every opportunity despite the unknown. You already are losing by doing nothing. Just trust yourself and take the leap of faith. You will either grow or succeed. The only way you lose is if you don’t try.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth has been becoming comfortable being uncomfortable. Sounds weird, but truthfully 12 months ago I wouldn’t dare doing anything out of my comfort zone. Now, I search for opportunities to get out of my comfort zone in order to grow myself spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and even sometimes physically. For example, talking to people about business in person has always been an uncomfortable topic. I have always ran to social media for marketing or connecting with potential clients or other businesses. However, I have pushed myself to participate in different vendor activities and social events to connect with these potentials in person. Therefore, I have learned how to communicate, carry myself with confidence, and what attracts people.
