Meet Fancy Jones

We recently connected with Fancy Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Fancy, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

One thing I live by is, “We only get one life. So do exactly what you can while you are here.”. I am most def a risk taker. I mean I literally up and left my city of Houston one day and moved to a hotel to pursue acting in Detroit for a year, which eventually led me to Atlanta awards. I’m literally on the move chasing a dream that I’m going to catch. I had no plan but I knew what I wanted to do. It just took me to move to make it happen.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I have been an actress for a little over 2 years with more than 20 films to date. I am about to executive produce my 1st film with me as a lead and shortly afterwards I will be producing my 1st film under my production company, “The Fancy Girl Productions”. I wrote my 1st script a little over a year ago and now it’s time to bring it to the screen. I decided to create my own production company as people send me scripts all the time and I’m like ok I’m just an actress. But now, I produce! So let’s make it happen! I want to give new talent opportunities as I know how it feels to be overlooked because you don’t have a name in the industry already so I want to help others get there. It’s clearly another one of my callings so I’m very excited about this next chapter in my life. I also just launched Season 2 of my talk show, “Fancy Talk Show” on YouTube. I interview talent in the industry so fans can get to know talent more and who they are outside of the industry. In today’s time, everyone wants to get on tv. But I want them to hear from talent how you have to have the passion for this and how you have to juggle many hustles to survive in the industry financially.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I’m a communicator. So I’m all about networking and putting myself out there. As they say, “closed mouths don’t get fed”. And that is so true. I am quick to jump in dm’s or email people. You have to take risk. You can’t wait for opportunities to find you. You have to create them or go find them yourself. I would have not made it this far in this short period of time without networking or great communication skills. Every set I am on, I ask questions. You have to also be a listener in order to succeed in this industry. We don’t know everything so you can’t act like you do. Learn as much as possible while on these sets and ask as many questions as you can to learn more about the industry you are in. My advice is to connect with people via social media and get out to events. Trust me, you will be surprised how your life can change just going up to someone having a convo or sliding in their dm on social media.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth has been perfecting my craft. I get better and better each project. My confidence has grown overtime with my talent of acting because if a production hires you, they clearly know you can do the job. I use to always second guess myself on sets. Now, I walk in with all the confidence because they chose me to be here, not someone else. So clearly I’m doing something right. But, always stay on your game, because anything can change at any given moment.
