Meet Farah Silat

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Farah Silat. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Farah below.

Farah, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

As a black sheep of the family amongst 4 siblings that were “A” grade students, I had understood from an early age that I would have to work twice as hard to prove I’m no less. I developed resilience and worked on my uniqueness over the years. I tried to focus on my interests and set goals for my self.
Once I entered the field of Makeup Artistry as a Muslim Hijabi woman, I realized that I would get skeptical looks, and once again had to prove myself. I blocked all hindrances around me and worked on my confidence and polished my skill for people to look beyond my attire.
Nourishing inner strength and building confidence in your ability to achieve is what makes successful.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hi, I’m Farah, a professional hair and makeup artist with a passion for enhancing natural beauty while in tune with my clients inspiration.
I have over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, including brides, models, and individuals for their special events. My expertise lies in both traditional and contemporary techniques, that I tailor to my clients individual unique features and preferences.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I love the artistry and skill that goes into creating unique and personalized looks for each client. Whether it’s a subtle, natural look or a bold, statement one, I enjoy the challenge of bringing that vision to life.
I believe, anyone stepping in to this industry must practice their skill and bring that finesse into their artistry and have a true passion to create bonds with clients for them to trust you with their vision.

How would you describe your ideal client?

I find fulfillment in the relationships I build with my clients. Being able to connect with them on a personal level, and collaborate to achieve their desired look is incredibly rewarding.

The tears and smiles of joy and gratitude I see on my clients’ faces when they look in the mirror and feel confident and beautiful is what drives me to continue pursuing my passion in the beauty industry.
So for me, it’s most important from my client to trust me with their vision.
