Meet Faredae Miller

We were lucky to catch up with Faredae Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.

Faredae, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I think it’s just a part of who I am. Ever since I was young I liked doing things like chores, mowing the grass, shoveling snow etc, Maybe partly because I liked the feeling I got when I was acknowledged for it. But I also just don’t like to sit still.
Every job I’ve had I worked hard and quickly moved into management positions. I’ve always had the mindset that if I’m going to be there, I might as well be doing something. Plus, I don’t like handouts so I wanted to earn my pay.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I started this business as a hobby in 2019. Then in 2020 we sold our other business and my husband retired. I decided to see what I could do with my little hobby. Over the next 2 years the hobby became a business and has continued to grow.

I don’t have any formal training. I formulate my products by researching different skin issues looking for ingredients that are beneficial. That’s what I think makes my products so effective. My formulas aren’t based on someone else’s recipes. They are all based on research. And every product must meet my three criteria. Effective, trustworthy and affordable.

Throughout the past five years people have come to me asking me for specific products. That’s how I choose what to add to my product line. It started with facial products and more recently people have been asking for things for pain, relaxation, hair etc. Some products can be added pretty quickly, others take a long time. I recently released my new eye cream. It took me a very long time to create a formula I was satisfied with.

I have a website where I sell my products, but my favorite way to sell is through in person events (upcoming events listed on my website). I love doing events where I can talk to people about the products and help them find the right products for their needs and lifestyle. The best part is when they test the products on their skin I get to see their reaction. They get to experience how my products differ from most products they have used before. How much the products moisturize and make their skin feel soft.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most impactful things that helped me along the way are my love for problem solving and being creative, my desire to help others and a drive to create a income so I can help others.

I love puzzles and problem solving. It’s fun for me to take a problem and find the pieces needed to fix the problem. (like healing sun spots)

Being creative helps me feel joyful. Whether it’s making products, designing my website or labels or painting furniture, I need to be creative in order for me to feel at peace.

I love helping other people. My desire to help others motivates me to create an income so that I able to help.

I believe you have to have things that motivate you in order to be successful. There are times where I question whether I want to keep doing this and putting so much energy and time into it. Then I think of the times I’ve needed money to help someone, the times when my products helped heal someone’s psoriasis, or the times I needed to relieve stress so I spent the day in the kitchen making products or researching ingredients. That’s what reminds me why I do what I do. I imagine the looks I’ve seen when someone puts my product on their skin and their eyes get big and they can’t get over how it feels.

You have to find the thing that drives you. But also know it’s normal to feel dragged down sometimes. When that happens you have to reevaluate and ask yourself if you still have the same goals and desires. If you do, then focus on what got you started and keep going.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My husband. He has been an entrepreneur his whole life. We met when I started working for him at the gym he owned. After five years we began dating. He helped me see my capabilities and helped me see myself differently. Everything I have ever wanted to try, he believed in me and supported me. Even when he didn’t think it was the right move for me.

His belief in me began way before I ever thought of doing this business. He helped me heal from my childhood trauma (I’m a sexual abuse survivor), he gave me confidence in myself and most importantly he let me feel safe, even when I fail. He encourages me to try again and not think badly about myself.

The faith and pride he has in me is what gives me faith and pride in myself. When he tells people about our skincare business he has so much pride on his face. Even when things don’t go as good as I hope at an event, he tells me how great I did. He is my biggest fan, my motivation and my hero!
