Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fatima Khambati. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fatima , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Keeping creativity alive is essential for personal growth and innovation. I stay curious about the world around me by exposing myself to a variety of experiences through travel or trying new hobbies. Another way to keep the creative juices flowing is by keeping my workspace organized and clutter-free to promote focus and clarity. I try to prioritize creativity by setting aside regular time for it because creativity is a skill that needs to be nurtured and developed with practice.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Greetings! My name is Fatima Khambati, a self-taught artist based in Houston. Art has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was young, I’ve had a natural talent for creating with my hands. My artistic abilities blossomed as I excelled in drawing during my school years,
Through experimentation with various mediums and techniques, I discovered my passion for watercolors. I appreciate the medium’s loose qualities and natural luminosity on white paper, which often leads to unexpected outcomes. I love creating artwork that is inspired by nature, especially wildlife and flowers. I always try to capture their true essence in my paintings.
As a self-taught artist, I often develop my distinct style and voice. Without the influence of formal art education, I have the freedom to explore and experiment with various techniques, materials, and subject matters and I must rely on my motivation and dedication to continually learn, improve, and push artistic boundaries. This can result in artwork that is truly original and reflective of my vision. It’s important to note that both self-taught and traditionally trained artists contribute to the rich tapestry of the art world,
I market and sell my artwork on various social media platforms such as Instagram and Etsy. I also display my work at local markets to give viewers a chance to observe my creations up close. My goal is to provide art lovers with one-of-a-kind artwork that they can appreciate. All of my pieces are original and cannot be found anywhere else. In addition, I offer prints of my artwork at a lower cost than the originals.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being adaptable is a valuable quality that enables me to navigate through changes, learn from different experiences, and adjust my approach when faced with obstacles. Additionally, my commitment to lifelong learning is an essential aspect that can significantly impact my journey. Lastly, resilience is another crucial quality that helps me navigate the ups and downs of life and achieve long-term success.
Adopt the belief that challenges and setbacks are opportunities for growth and learning. When faced with setbacks and challenges, reflect on what went wrong and what lessons can be learned. Define your goals and aspirations clearly. Break them down into smaller, manageable steps. Having a clear vision of what you want to achieve helps you stay committed and focused. Be patient with yourself and celebrate small victories along the way. These qualities are not fixed traits but can be developed and strengthened through intentional effort and a growth mindset.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Definitely! I am open to working with other artists and illustrators as collaborations can lead to exciting and innovative projects. My ideal partners would be fashion designers, as we can create wearable art or integrate fine art into fashion collections. I can contribute my unique artistic style to clothing, accessories, or textile designs. Additionally, I would make a great pair with architects and interior designers. Collaborating with them can involve creating site-specific artworks or integrating art into architectural spaces. These are just a few examples, and the possibilities for collaboration are endless.
