We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fatima Mbodj a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Fatima , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I tend to follow my heart when it comes to inspiration! Whether it’s travel to beautiful places or spending time in nature, I find inspiration leafs to creativity. I enjoy creating products that are inspired by the energetic experiences that are most enjoyable to myself and others.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I currently own Path Of Awakenings a metaphysical store in the French Quarter of New Orleans, La. I make most of the intentional products in the shop such as crystal soaps, intention candles, intention sprays, oils and elixirs. I’m also the author and creator of the New Orleans Oracle Deck. I’m currently working on a Goddess Oracle Deck and a new series of candles centered around the divine feminine. I’m also currently working on a line of intention perfumes as well.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first quality that was important then and now, was my willingness to remain present and open to learning.
The second is that I’ve always followed my intuition and inspiration. It hasn’t always been a straight line forward, but it has been a successful and enjoyable one.
I always found a way to spend time in the environments and/or with the people who were using their special talents in ways that were helpful to the world and fulfilling to them as well.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Alchemist played and continues to play an important role in my life. I think one of the most impactful things about the story is that you hsve to be willing to follow your heart and throw yourself wholeheartedly into whatever you’re committing yourself to. Another important theme is that, you sometimes have to take a step before knowing or understanding the next one. The most valuable wisdom from the novel might be the understanding that as long as you’re learning and growing authentically, you’re likely going to end up in an even better destination than you’d hoped for!
