We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Felicia Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Felicia below.
Hi Felicia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In 2002, my life took an unexpected turn that would become the catalyst for the creation of CPRWrap and, more significantly, the discovery of my purpose. It was a day etched in fear and desperation when my two-year-old son, Markel, faced a near-fatal choking incident during a family drive in our hometown of Chattanooga, TN.
Working in a hospital at that time, I was CPR-trained annually, yet in that critical moment, fear gripped me, and I froze. Unable to render help to my own child, I faced the haunting reality that theoretical knowledge did not always translate into confident action during emergencies. This profound realization became the driving force behind my journey to create a solution that could empower not only myself but countless others.
The journey to develop CPRWrap began in 2010 with a non-working prototype, a humble start that mirrored the uncertainties I faced during that harrowing incident. Navigating the intricate world of patents, materials, and manufacturing wasn’t easy, but my 20 years of experience in the medical field became a guiding compass. I sought guidance from cardiology experts, respiratory specialists, and CPR instructors, ensuring that CPRWrap would not only be effective but also user-friendly.
Fast forward to 2016, the year I officially filed for the patent, marking a pivotal moment in my pursuit of a purpose-driven solution. The journey was fraught with challenges, from struggles to secure investment due to low ARR to the triumph of winning pitch competitions totaling over $200,000. The challenges were not just business hurdles but personal and emotional ones that tested my resolve and commitment.
The tipping point came when, in 2023, CPRWrap Resuscitation Kits were used to save two lives. This transcendent moment underscored the profound impact of my mission and solidified my purpose — to empower individuals globally with the confidence and tools to respond effectively during emergencies.
My vision for CPRWrap is not merely a business endeavor; it’s a commitment to bridging the gap between CPR knowledge and decisive action, ensuring that no one feels as helpless as I did on that fateful day in 2002. The purpose I found in the creation of CPRWrap goes beyond product sales and accolades; it lies in the lives potentially saved, the communities empowered, and the resilience born out of adversity.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In the tapestry of my life, there’s a thread that stands out, woven with purpose and resilience. As the founder of CPRWrap, my journey is one of transformative experiences and an unyielding commitment to making a difference.
My story took a significant turn in 2002 when, faced with a near-fatal choking incident involving my two-year-old son Markel, I grappled with the harsh reality that despite being CPR-trained, fear could paralyze even the most well-prepared. This moment became the impetus for the creation of CPRWrap, a revolutionary tool designed to empower and guide individuals during emergencies.
The road to CPRWrap’s creation wasn’t without challenges. From the initial non-working prototype in 2010 to the official patent filing in 2016, the journey mirrored the uncertainties of that pivotal moment in 2002. Drawing on my 20 years of experience in the medical field, I collaborated with experts to ensure CPRWrap not only met industry standards but was intuitive and user-friendly.
What sets CPRWrap apart is its innovative approach to simplifying and enhancing the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) process. The visual guidance, user-friendly design, and inclusivity across age groups make it a vital tool. The pivotal moment came in 2023 when CPRWrap Resuscitation Kits were used to save two lives, emphasizing the profound impact of this mission-driven endeavor.
But the story doesn’t end there. Building on the success of CPRWrap, I ventured into uncharted territory with the launch of CPRCanine, the first-ever CPR Kit for dogs. This expansion reflects CPRWrap’s commitment not only to human lives but to the well-being of our four-legged companions.
Professionally, I am focused on creating social impact through CPRWrap. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about fostering a culture of preparedness, empowerment, and lifesaving knowledge. Beyond sales and revenue, CPRWrap aims to make a difference by equipping individuals with the tools and confidence to act during critical moments.
CPRWrap is not just a business; it’s a social impact company on a mission to bridge the gap between CPR knowledge and effective action. It’s about saving lives, empowering communities, and instilling a sense of confidence that transcends emergencies. And with the introduction of CPRCanine, we extend our impact to our furry friends, reinforcing the ethos that every life is worth saving.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as pivotal:
Resilience:
The entrepreneurial path is laden with challenges and setbacks. Resilience became my anchor, allowing me to weather uncertainties, setbacks, and self-doubt. It’s crucial to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Embrace failure as a stepping stone toward success, learn from it, and let it fuel your determination.
Adaptability:
The landscape of entrepreneurship is dynamic, requiring constant adaptation to changing circumstances, market trends, and unforeseen challenges. The ability to pivot, evolve, and embrace change with an open mind is essential. Staying flexible and open to innovation positions you for success in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Passion and Purpose:
The journey is long and demanding, and passion for your mission is the driving force that propels you forward. A clear sense of purpose anchors your efforts, guiding decision-making and sustaining momentum. Passion is contagious—it inspires teams, attracts collaborators, and resonates with customers.
In advice to those early in their journey:
Never stop learning. Seek knowledge not only in your specific industry but also in adjacent fields. Attend workshops, read widely, and stay informed about emerging trends. A curious and open mind positions you as an agile and informed entrepreneur.
Cultivate meaningful relationships with mentors, peers, and industry experts. Networking provides insights, mentorship, and potential collaborations. Surround yourself with a diverse and supportive network that can offer guidance and share experiences.
Stay True to Your Values!
As you navigate challenges, stay anchored in your core values and mission. This authenticity not only attracts like-minded collaborators but also ensures that your journey is aligned with your beliefs.
Remember, the journey is as important as the destination. Embrace the process, stay resilient, adapt continuously, and let your passion guide you. The challenges are part of the narrative, and it’s your response to them that shapes your story.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Certainly! Here’s a revised version:
Absolutely! I am actively pursuing collaboration opportunities to propel the mission of CPRWrap forward. I am keen on forming partnerships with individuals and organizations that share a dedication to enhancing emergency response and fostering community well-being. Specifically, I am open to collaborations in the following areas:
Healthcare Professionals and Institutions:
Collaborating with medical professionals, hospitals, and healthcare institutions is vital for enhancing the credibility and effectiveness of CPRWrap. We aim to provide our innovation to new parents and high-risk cardiac patients before leaving the hospital, ensuring immediate access to life-saving tools.
Educational Partnerships:
Recognizing the transformative power of education, I aspire to place our innovation in every classroom, from schools and colleges to daycares. This initiative ensures an immediate response to cardiac emergencies. If you are an educator, school, or institution passionate about integrating CPR education, I would love to explore collaborative initiatives.
Community Organizations and Safety Advocates:
Prioritizing ties with organizations dedicated to community safety and well-being is crucial. Addressing the disparity in bystander CPR access, particularly in minority and low-income communities, is a key focus. If you are involved in community initiatives, safety advocacy, or emergency preparedness, let’s discuss how CPRWrap can contribute to closing this gap.
Retail and Distribution Partners:
Expanding the accessibility of CPRWrap is paramount. Visualizing CPRWrap Resuscitation Kits on store shelves, we aim to provide concerned citizens with options to acquire our innovation. I’m enthusiastic about collaborating with retail partners and distributors who share the vision of making life-saving tools widely available.
