Meet Felicity Folson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Felicity Folson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Felicity , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.

I had to tell myself the majority of the things people say about you are projections. It’s a difference between constructive criticism and just being a hater . It’s easier said than done, but I tell myself not everyone is going to agree or like something. It could be something you do, say, or just you in general. With that being said, it’s not my job to care how someone feels about me. At the end of the day, only God can judge me. It’s hard at times, but the older I get, the easier people’s opinions roll off of me. I don’t speak as much as I used to because my character & demeanor are always going to be louder. I sometimes think back to when I used to always defend myself, but looking at it now, what am I defending? I’m just wasting energy and time that could be used to invest in myself. I’m secure with myself enough to know who I am instead of letting someone think they can tell me who I am.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Currently I’m working on getting my content more out there. I’m a graphic designer & editor. I have so many more services that I want to add to my business, but for now I’m going to focus on building my clientele and portfolio. My business is called “The Melaninprint.”. I really love to design concepts for people. It’s exciting to me because there are so many possibilities and different things you can create, as well as many things you can learn. Everything I’ve ever created was from a random idea I had. I get my inspirations from stories, music, and honestly whatever catches my attention and sticks. I really love when my clients give me the opportunity to freestyle & surprise them with what I think is best. The fact they trust my judgment that much is very heartwarming and appreciated. All of my projects are from scratch, and then I just go with the flow until I’m satisfied with the final product.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Constructive criticism, determination, and patience heavily influenced my journey. Don’t pay attention to the likes or the views; just do it for you. Don’t beg or ask for support; let it come naturally. It may feel like your efforts are going unnoticed, but I promise you someone is watching. If you have a dream or a vision, it’s because it can be achieved. Don’t let anyone make you feel like what you’re wanting is unrealistic; it’s on your heart and mind for a reason. This may sound cliché, but I also want to add that being a good person goes a long way. Do right by people, and it’ll come back to you tenfold. Even if you think you know everything, still listen because it doesn’t hurt to gain more knowledge or change your perspective. Also, for the people who overthink like me, don’t be so hard on yourself; life doesn’t come with instructions. It’s okay to make mistakes, learn from them, add it to your character, and try again.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

I don’t want to limit my answer to a specific person, so I’m going to say everyone who didn’t give up on what they wanted. I love reading success stories about people who got turned away or how people didn’t believe in them, so they went out on their own and did the work to start their own careers. Even if it was just them trying different things until they found their passion. It’s so inspiring to hear because once upon a time I was a little girl with the same dream, and seeing someone show me it’s possible is motivation. I want to be self-employed and use my talents to help others achieve their dreams. I take notes from people who love teaching my generation things that they went through so we can apply it to our story and be successful with them.
