Meet Felicity Scott

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Felicity Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Felicity below.

Felicity, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Growing up, I watched my dad’s health gradually impact his mobility, yet he never stopped pursuing his dreams. For 29 years, he was the pianist and music director for The Whispers, and even as his health changed, he continued to play at events, showing me the power of resilience. I remember sitting in on his rehearsals, watching as he directed the group with respect and precision, always reminding me, “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.”

As a business owner, I’ve learned that this journey is full of lessons—things to learn, change, and implement. It hasn’t been easy, but my dad’s example and my faith have kept me going. I remember a time when I was applying for grants back-to-back, and nothing seemed to go through. I was starting to feel discouraged about my company. Then, a friend sent me information about the Black Pitch Competition hosted by the Sacramento State Black Alumni Chapter. My dad’s words came to mind, and I decided to go for it.

I’m so grateful I did. Competing opened up so many doors—I was one of the winners and had the opportunity to be interviewed on Good Day Sacramento about my business. I also made valuable connections within the community. That experience reminded me that, even when things seem tough, there’s always another path forward. Through every setback, I’ve found the strength to keep pushing, smiling even through the tears. This path has taught me that resilience and purpose are my guiding lights, and for that, I’m grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities that have guided my journey are trusting God’s plan, documenting my vision, and persevering through change. I remember when God first gave me the vision for this company back in high school—I was determined to leave college with a business, and that’s exactly what I did. This vision has been with me for so long, and in moments of doubt or fear, I go back to that original blueprint, to the things I wrote down. Those notes remind me that I’m still on the path God set for me and that He hasn’t left me.

Even though the journey may look different than I originally imagined, that’s part of growth—adapting, evolving, and adjusting while staying true to the vision. Each time I revisit what I wrote down, it’s like a confirmation: the momentum is real, and I’m on the right path. My advice to others is to trust in the bigger plan, write down your vision, and let those reminders push you forward, even when things seem uncertain. God’s timing and purpose are unfolding exactly as they should—just keep moving, and don’t lose sight of what you were called to build.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I pause, breathe, and allow myself to work through my feelings. I take time to question and understand why I’m feeling this way, and then I relax, reminding myself that it’s okay to do what I can for the day without pushing too hard. Discipline in my morning and night routine is essential—it helps me start and end my day with a centered mind and balanced energy.

Some of the practices I use include yoga, journaling, taking spiritual walks, and listening to Sarah Jakes Roberts. I also enjoy drinking tea in a quiet space at home, which brings me peace. Connecting with close loved ones is another way I process my emotions and thoughts. These practices remind me that self-care isn’t just about rest; it’s about creating space for myself to grow, heal, and stay aligned with my purpose.
