We recently connected with Felisha Lugo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Felisha, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe from a young adolescent you begin to question what is your purpose in life…why was I created? Who will I become? What will be left behind of me once I’m no longer here?
Most times our environments start to mold our paths for our desires. I can think of pivotal moments in my life that put me in positions to be someone I’ve never been so that I would adapt a powerful mindset on my journey of discovering my purpose. The most challenging by far was navigating and finding my footing entering motherhood but to follow up with that would be my choice to be an entrepreneur.
I can plainly say like many of us I do not come from a family of great wealth. My first example of perseverance & resilience was watching my mother (who was teenage mother) do everything in her power to provide the best life for me. She motivated me more than she will ever understand and still does til this very day.
So much so that she inspired me to cultivate a mindset of never settling and always going after what I wanted for my life.. Which in turn made see everything about life differently than most around me.
I knew clocking into a 9-5 work place was never the life I wanted to lead. After having my first child I then was absolutely clear on what I wanted, just wasn’t sure how I was going to arrive.
And while I am still in that journey of self discovery I have most definitely came a long way from a small town girl born into poverty with a single teenaged mom.
The thing with growing up “minority” is that imperative resources and spectacular education aren’t necessarily available to you.
For example, my schools didn’t offer essential classes. The real life stuff!!! Such as financial literacy classes..which if existed at the time I hoped would have taught me about credit, assets, liabilities, money management, & generational wealth.
Becoming an adult and not having a grip on this crucial knowledge lighted a fire inside of me! I knew I didn’t want my children and their children and so on to have these misunderstandings. And from there I birthed my entrepreneurial journey.
I started out my entrepreneurship becoming an a credited personal trainer, soon after that I had my first child, which made me go harder. I went back to school and added massage therapy modalities to my services. While that was great (because I have a passion for serving people and I come from an athletic background) I knew deep down inside this line of work wouldn’t necessarily created the legacy I wanted to leave behind. So, I keep searching.
While constantly examining my heart and the world for what I wanted to do I noticed how badly my family & community lacked financial knowledge on basic things we MUST know about such as….Taxes.
Once I was set on it I went back to school and got certified to become a tax professional. That led me to opening the doors of my virtual tax office based out of Kissimmee, Fl.
Our Community Tax Services LLC is more than just doing taxes for our people. It is a place my clients come to LEARN. Our goal will always be to encourage our clients to seek, learn and apply the knowledge we offer.
Our long term goal is to
have a center where all walks of life may come to learn about money, real estate, and all different sorts of investments. All things financial so that they may passed it on to their family and friends and attain the life they dream of too.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Our Community Tax Services LLC our main service is small business and individual tax preparation. This upcoming tax season will be our fifth tax season and we have great life enhancing services being added for our community along with a complete rebranding.
The rebranding idea came from the point I am at in my life. Just entering my 30s, caring deeply for my mind, body and soul in a new way and being confident in my motherhood. I want continuously plan for my business to grow and expand with me.
Service wise, I always knew we would not just stop at prepping taxes. That was just getting our feet wet. Imagine with me for a moment, huge community events offering classes, imperative education and entertainment for your entire family, with huge community give aways. For example, back packed drives, clothes and food drives. Being surrounded by people dedicated to the wellbeing & growth of your families & community. Going home feeling inspired to take control of your financial future. That and more is what I aspire to create for my family and yours.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I could offer wisdom to anyone going after their dreams I would tell them don’t be afraid to bet on yourself, take risk! Get around amazing people who support your vision and vice versa. And most of all be authentically yourself always.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am most definitely always in the business of meeting wonderful people. Individuals who have passion for helping the world around them no matter how big or small. People who are true and stand on what they say. I feel like you can accomplish a lot on your own but when you team up with people who truly have the best intentions the results will surpass what you ever could have imagined.
