We recently connected with Femily and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Femily with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
To be honest, my work ethic is naps. I owe a big thanks to Tricia Hersey (Nap Ministry) for helping me shed the guilt around honoring my natural energy. Napping—when paired with advocacy—isn’t just restorative; it’s radical. Slowing down and grounding ourselves are acts of resistance against a system obsessed with productivity, endless to-do lists, hustle culture, and “staying busy.” That system keeps us distracted from our inner longings, too burnt out to confront societal injustices, or to take action for a burning planet.
I also give a nod to the “4-Hour Workweek” guy for planting the idea that, as an entrepreneur, my powerhouse, money-making efforts could be condensed into strategic bursts. Maybe not four hours—but definitely not 40. I deliver amazing B+ work for my clients. (Yes, B+ in how polished it is, A+ in the thinking and usefulness, and they love it.) Why? Because I don’t stretch projects out or over-polish them to the point of diminishing returns. My clients hire me for my deep experience, industry wisdom, and can-do attitude—not for the midnight-level finesse of my slide decks.
The bottom line? I work smart, I rest well, and I prioritize what truly matters—to me, to my clients, and to the world we’re all trying to change.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Femily, a workplace futurist, speaker, and advocate for gender and LGBTQ+ equity in business. I’m passionate about helping organizations and individuals thrive by dismantling outdated systems and fostering inclusive, innovative environments. My work blends bold truth-telling with a deep love for humanity, empowering people to embrace their unique potential while challenging inequity. One of my most exciting programs (aside from my flagship program Future Thought Leader) right now is “How to Get Clients”, a program for feminist and queer entrepreneurs that equips them with practical tools to grow their businesses. Through my classes, speaking engagements, and consulting, I aim to uplift underdogs, spark change, and inspire a brighter, more inclusive future.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three things have been especially impactful in my journey.
First, sharing my connections and connecting people to amazing humans and opportunities has been my superpower. I’ve found that when I generously open doors for others, it creates ripples of possibility and magic that come back tenfold.
Second, I’ve learned not to give myself a hard time about much. There’s so much pressure for women to be perfect, but embracing imperfection with humor and self-compassion has made my path lighter and more fulfilling. (This was easier because I’m queer and I don’t have to face the pressures that straight women face re: beauty, aging, body, hetero dating culture…)
Lastly, I’ve always kept a balance between making the world a better place and being deeply rooted in pleasure and joy. Change work is hard, but staying tethered to what feels good—whether it’s meaningful relationships, savoring small moments, or indulging in life’s delights—keeps me fueled and inspired.
My advice? Start small (way before you think “oh I’m perfect and perfectly ready!” (you’ll never feel that!), and to connect generously, practice self-kindness, and never underestimate the power of joy as you work toward your big goals.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who’s ready to challenge the status quo but struggles with sales, marketing, and/or self-promotion. Or feels overwhelm at getting started.
They know they have something valuable to contribute to building a more inclusive and loving world—whether through their workplace, business, community, or personal sphere—but feel shy, introverted, or stuck when it comes to putting themselves out there.
They’re eager to break out of their shell, regain their confidence, and step into their full potential so they can make the money and impact they deserve.
My favorite clients are feminist, queer, or equity-minded individuals who understand that creating a better world doesn’t mean sacrificing fun or pleasure—it’s about leaning into them as essential parts of the process.
