Meet Fernanda Barragan

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fernanda Barragan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Fernanda , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I discovered my purpose the first time I applied a lipstick. I rediscovered it the first time I produced one.
I’ve been in love with makeup for as long as I can remember. At just three years old, I would line up all my makeup along the rim of the bed of my dad’s pickup truck. I still remember a vibrant orange lipstick named Mango—it smelled amazing. One whiff of that lipstick felt like an awakening. It sparked something in me: a sense of purpose, a desire to break the rules (especially since my parents weren’t exactly thrilled about me wearing makeup at that age), and a passion that would only grow with time.

Years later, when I discovered the world of cosmetic manufacturing, that purpose became innate. I fell in love not only with cosmetics themselves but also with the complexity of the manufacturing process. Today, helping brands navigate and streamline that process has become both my passion and my professional purpose—and it continues to drive me every day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m the founder of Bbeauty, a cosmetic manufacturing agency that has now evolved into a full-service USA-based manufacturer.

I began my journey in 2019, focusing on international product development and manufacturing for clients in the beauty industry. However, when tariffs hit, everything changed. The added fees were astronomical, and many of my clients were overwhelmed by the sudden costs. At the same time, domestic manufacturing—while closer to home—often came with its own challenges, particularly high minimum order quantities and steep pricing.

During that period, I even considered stepping away from the industry and looked into buying a laundromat. But I had to be honest with myself: I hate doing laundry. So how could I expect to love going to work every day if I couldn’t even enjoy the core of the business?

That’s when the idea first took root—to start a small-scale manufacturing facility. Through a combination of hard work, grit, and a bit of luck, we made that vision a reality. After a year of negotiations and relentless effort, I acquired LIPINK™, a well-established U.S. cosmetic brand founded in 1995. LIPINK™ is an industry favorite, known for its partnerships with Playboy and other notable names and celebrities.

What made this acquisition even more meaningful was that it included a manufacturing facility, which I have now fully integrated into Bbeauty. This allows us to offer domestic manufacturing services to our clients, helping them avoid tariffs and simplify logistics—making high-quality U.S.-made cosmetics more accessible to indie and emerging brands.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe the top three most important skills, qualities, or areas of knowledge in this industry are:

Show up as your most authentic self.
Whether you find yourself in a room full of people who may be more experienced, wealthier, or more knowledgeable, none of that diminishes the value of your unique story and perspective. It’s your authenticity and passion that truly matter—those are the qualities that set you apart and create genuine connections.

Commit to lifelong learning.
No matter how skilled or experienced you become, the world of manufacturing is constantly evolving—and mistakes can be costly for both brands and manufacturers alike. Staying informed about the latest trends and innovations is crucial, but it’s equally important to maintain rigorous quality control. The balance between innovation and quality is key to building a successful product.

Choose your manufacturing partner wisely.
Your manufacturing partner is more than just a service provider—they are an extension of your team. It’s essential to do thorough research and find a partner who aligns with your values, needs, and goals. At Bbeauty, we pride ourselves on transparency and open communication. If we aren’t the best fit for your brand, we will happily help guide you toward someone who is.

Remember, the manufacturing process is the cornerstone of building a strong and sustainable product line. We’re excited and ready to support you on this journey!
