We recently connected with Fernanda Galicia and have shared our conversation below.
Fernanda, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity is a must for my business, but not always will I be at the top of my game, just like in the rest of my life it has its highs and lows.
I try to stay realistic, you can’t force it, it has to come to you, however I am always getting inspired by others, the balloon business is big and people are always upping the expectations.
I follow and keep an eye out on the community, I stay in touch with trends and try to put my twist on it all.
My personal favorite thing to do is paint on bubble balloons and there isn’t anything you can’t do.
It’s also about trial and error, the amount of times you’d like to pull of a product and it doesn’t work so you have to go another way, all that plays a part, it helps me learn and also teaches me the sort of things I can do in the future.
Just about everything is inspiration, online entertainment, culture, music, people, etc.
When I’m in the process of coming up with a new product I take into consideration who it is for, what their interests are, which colors will match, can it be made and how long it’ll take me, the budget from the buyer, it all matters.
There isn’t a limit for what you can do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Fernanda, I’m an event planner, specifically balloon decorations.
I own a small business in Waverly MN.
My business is just getting started but I’m extremely grateful with the support I get, I post my process of creativity on TikTok where I do sped through videos of the making of my balloon projects.
I grew up being very artistic but it was never a serious job prospect until now, 3 years ago when I first planned my own wedding I felt completely in love with the process, I ended up doing everything on my own, from the flower arrangements to the outsourcing of each personnel, I drew our own wedding invitations, created a website, arranged the schedule and table seatings, and I couldn’t get enough.
Just last year I re discovered my love for planning and started working with balloons, for the future we hope to slowly expand the business to take on full event planning, however at the moment balloon decorations has absolutely helped me dip my feet in the event planning waters.
We look forward to helping more Minnesotans with their get togethers, and we can be found on FB, TikTok and Instagram as @galiciaeventsmn
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Research, before even trying anything I look for as many ideas, recommendations and walk throughs in order to prepare for it.
The biggest skill is creativity, you really need to have the artistic ability and imagination to bring your product to life, a lot of it is constant trial and error, you can built your expertise but you have to want to put in the work.
And finally patience, this sort of business will run you down, you’ll do so much and at the start feel like it’s difficult, tiring, with so many more business out there you probably won’t feel unique enough or professional enough to gain the following but keeping consistent and staying positive will keep you on going and one day that patience will pay off, and you’ll have your own personal touch and a group of people who love what you do
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Put it down, I have gone through times of failure over and over again, feeling overwhelmed and like I can’t do it, however taking the time to rest, breath and chill will absolutely help, I’ve always come back with a more positive attitude and in the time off considered ways to fix the problem, so far I’ve yet to have a product I was not able to deliver, even if the road to make it happen can be tricky, calming yourself before moving forward will never affect you negatively, we have to remember we’re human and can’t always stay put together. But we can always come back stronger
