We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fernando Alvarez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fernando below.
Fernando, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I built my confidence and self-esteem through various methods, including pep talks and client feedback. Confidence was a crucial factor in creating and growing my Mobile Mechanic business. The ability to believe in myself and the quality of my work was something I had to focus on the most. I learned to recognize my skills and understand that my work ethic was more than sufficient. If I couldn’t believe in myself, how could anyone else believe in my work?
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a 26-year-old mechanic from Louisiana, eager to turn my skills into a business that offers honest work and affordable repairs right at your doorstep. My passion lies in working on vehicles, and I felt it was only right to turn this passion into a profitable venture.
It’s incredibly rewarding to show up and transform a customer’s headache into relief by fixing their vehicle’s issues. I take pride in providing honest work at fair prices. I work hard for my money, just like the person reading this. I hate to see anyone taken advantage of by scammers or due to their lack of vehicle knowledge. It shouldn’t be hard to find a honest mechanic that will actually fix your car without costing an arm and leg.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe the three most important skills are communication, confidence, and work ethic. Effective communication is essential not only for attracting new clients but also for building lasting relationships with them. Confidence helps you grow and step out of your comfort zone more easily.
A strong work ethic not only demonstrates professionalism but also speaks volumes about the quality of the work or service you provide.
My favorite quote is, ‘Very good isn’t good enough; excellence is the only option.’
My advice for those starting out is to turn your weaknesses into strengths. Identify the skills that will benefit you the most and work on transforming them into your strengths. It’s never shameful to ask for help. There’s so many options on improving any skills, believing in yourself will allow you to turn any skill into a strength
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Running a business is not easy. It requires time and effort and can sometimes be very overwhelming. Personally, I remind myself to stop, take a deep breath, and collect my thoughts before continuing. This is often easier said than done.
My advice is to prioritize self-care first. Then, outline what needs to be done and prioritize tasks to avoid multitasking. Having the right connections can also lighten the load and help you accomplish what you need without feeling overwhelmed.
