Meet Fernando Fula

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fernando Fula. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fernando below.

Hi Fernando , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I think my resilience comes from a few different places.

First, growing up in a working-class family, I learned early on that nothing comes easy. You have to work hard for what you want. That mindset was ingrained in me from a young age.

Also, facing rejection from traditional art schools was tough, but it fueled my determination. Instead of giving up, I found an alternative path. Working while constantly improving my art – that built a kind of mental toughness. I think, ultimately, my resilience comes from a deep-seated belief in myself and my art. Every setback, every struggle, has just reinforced my commitment to my craft. It’s like each obstacle has been a test, asking me, “How badly do you want this?” And every time, I’ve answered by pushing harder, working more, and refusing to give up.

So yeah, my resilience? It’s a mix of my upbringing, my past struggles, and my unwavering passion for art.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Well, as an artist, I’m always excited to share my passion with others. My art is a reflection of my own journey – the struggles, the growth, the constant evolution. And I hope that by sharing my work, I can connect with people on a deeper level.

What I find most special about what I do is the ability to take the complexities of human emotion and give them physical form through paint. Anxiety, fear, control, freedom – these abstract concepts become tangible on the canvas. And in doing so, I hope to create a dialogue, to make people think and feel.

I’d also love for folks to know that my art is a constant work in progress. I’m not interested in stagnating or resting on my laurels. Each new piece is an opportunity to push my boundaries, to experiment, to grow. So when you follow my work, you’re not just seeing the end result – you’re witnessing an ongoing artistic evolution.

As for anything new, I’ll be exhibiting work along side some of the most amazing artists in the Boston area: This is America – An exhibition for the people, by the people. Running from June 10th – July 19th, Opening Reception is Thursday, June 27th, from 6pm to 8pm – Boston City Hall, 1 City Hall Square, Boston MA 02201.

So stay tuned my friends, because the best is yet to come

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Perseverance, Introspection, Adaptability

Perseverance has been key because, let’s face it, the path of the artist is not an easy one. There have been countless setbacks, rejections, and moments where I wanted to throw in the towel.

Introspection is another critical quality. As artists, we have to be willing to look inward, to examine our fears, our anxieties, our deepest emotions. It’s only by doing this inner work that we can create art that truly resonates.

And finally, adaptability. The art world is constantly evolving, and if we want to succeed, we have to be willing to change and grow with it. I’ve had to adapt my style, my approach, even my mindset at various points in my journey.

Remember, the journey of the artist is a lifelong one. It’s full of ups and downs, triumphs and setbacks. But if you can cultivate perseverance, introspection, and adaptability, you’ll be well on your way to creating art that truly matters – to you and to the world.
