Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fidel Gutiérrez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fidel, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose after a long introspective journey in which I discovered that my purpose was to be happy, as at death it’s the only thing that will be worth it. How can I be happy? Easy, by dedicating time to all those things that stimulate my body, my mind, and my soul.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am someone who never stops imagining, and I get paid for it! Growing up as an only child led me to seek creative ways to entertain myself. From an early age, I started playing musical instruments, painting, and creating all sorts of things. I was fortunate to have parents and grandparents who supported my creative development. My grandmother always encouraged me to create and allowed me to play with objects I found around the house, making every day a new adventure. Upon reaching adulthood, I studied for a degree in Marketing and was lucky enough to start my career as a creative in advertising agencies and show business from the age of 18 (AMAP Mexican Association of Advertising Agencies) and later at CREA-CIE-OCESA, working with some of the world’s most important brands across various sectors. I have been involved in projects such as creating Christmas caravans for Coca-Cola, developing creativity for the launch of the Torre Bancomer in CDMX, creating campaigns for FITUR and the Government of Mexico, and experiences with zombies for The Walking Dead and Hyundai, among many other stories. Currently, I am at Azteca Media, one of the most important media groups in LATAM, where I am the Creative Lead for Fox Sports Mexico, which allowed me to fulfill one of my biggest dreams, being present at a Super Bowl. My curiosity has always led me to explore further, which is why I studied Astrophysics and recently completed a course in Artificial Intelligence. This inspired me to found Aigency, a company dedicated to creating content through AI, something I consider pioneering in Mexico. We have carried out very interesting projects for international brands.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1.-Lateral Thinking: It’s crucial to adopt an alternative vision to see things, as this boosts creativity and offers new perspectives. This is applicable even in personal matters. I firmly believe in the importance of exploring different angles and in the ability of this to enrich our understanding and problem-solving.
2.-Passion for Research and Knowledge: Knowledge is undoubtedly a form of power. Looking at it objectively, the more information we have, the greater our capacity to influence and rate ourselves higher in the professional and social sectors. It’s essential to maintain an open mind and constant curiosity towards learning, as this not only better prepares us for challenges but also opens doors to new opportunities.
3.-Professional Self-Esteem: I recognize that this can be a challenge. Personally, I spent many years comparing myself to others, which sometimes led me to underestimate my work due to a lack of experience. However, it’s vital to compare ourselves only to ourselves, critically evaluating our work and asking how we can improve it. The key is to believe in oneself, while being realistic and mature enough to recognize when it’s necessary to start over with an idea and when it’s time to defend it against criticism.
My general advice is to always maintain a spirit of learning, using the knowledge acquired to enhance the skills we possess. It’s fundamental to continue growing and to keep ourselves in constant evolution.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Definitely the Kybalion because it is a book that presents the teachings of Hermeticism, attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. The key ideas revolve around 7 Universal Principles: Mentalism (everything is mind), Correspondence (as above, so below), Vibration (everything moves), Polarity (everything has its opposite), Rhythm (everything flows and ebbs), Cause and Effect (every cause has its effect), and Gender (everything has its masculine and feminine principle). These principles seek to explain the nature of the universe and how the knowledge of these laws can be used to better understand the material and immaterial world, guiding towards greater harmony and spiritual understanding :.
