We were lucky to catch up with Finnigan Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Finnigan, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my father. He was an amazing example of generosity growing up. He has always been generous, I cannot remember a time where he was not. He is generous with his time, with his sharing his expertise, showing people what he loves most, and with what he has. I am nowhere near as generous as my father, but where I can be, I am generous. I think it is important to give without expecting anything in return.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I love creating businesses. They have not always been successful, but I have always learned a lot. That is what I love most, learning. Currently, I have a beeswax candle business that truly feeds my soul. I create a beautiful candles shaped like women, and will move into making candles in one of a kind vessels that can be reused as mugs. Also, I bought my first rental property last year and have plans to continue buying unique stays and fixing them up. That satisfies a huge creative part of me, but also it feels great to be finding sound investments.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Stay curious, have fun, and run the numbers. I think that being curious is huge. Always ask questions, keep learning to improve you business, and do not be afraid of the mistakes. Having fun is really important! If you aren’t having fun, then why are you doing it? If you are starting a business, it is going to be hard, so you need to love what you are doing and have fun doing it. Always run the numbers! You have to make sure if the numbers are making sense if you want to succeed.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would LOVE to collaborate with ceramic artists to make candles. I recently connected with a husband and wife team who made me incredible ceramic vessel I am going to make into candles. I want to do more of that. I told them to have fun and get creative and I would love to connect with more ceramicists who would like to create unique pieces for me.
