Meet Fiona Wang

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fiona Wang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fiona below.

Fiona, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter Syndrome is very common and over the years what I’ve learnt is that so many people suffer from it, including incredibly successful and intelligent people. Personally I constantly feel as if I am not ready, good enough or skilled enough for an opportunity or experience but the way I overcome imposter syndrome is through action. In other words if there is an opportunity in front of me, and I am scared or or doubt my ability to take it, I will still take the first action and accept it irrespective of how I actually feel. You will always be amazed at how you can find solutions to challenges when you’re actually in it, but overthinking usually causes paralysis, so instead of allowing myself to overthink I will simply just take the action, one action at a time.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a content creator and business owner from Sydney Australia. I started creating content during lockdown as a form of connecting with people online and eventually loved the challenge so much I started an Agency Candid Co to help other businesses and brands engage with their audience online.

Today I most known for creating food and travel content across Australia and Asia and running my viral creative business The Fluid Project.

What fuels me the most is sharing experienes and trying new things, I want to encourage everyone to embrace their inner curious selves, to discover new cultures and to learn more about themselves and each other as I believe that is the core to making life colourful.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I personally believe skills and knowledge are areas that anyone can learn and grow from so the 3 most important qualities that helped me in my journey has been

1. Being open minded: Listening more than you talk, trying to understand all perspectives rather than shutting down or judging ones that are unfamiliar to you and appreciating that everyone and every situation is different. This allows you to gain a deeper and more connected relationship to others.

2. Being Proactive: Never wait for the opportunity to come to your door, when you have ideas write them down and talk to people, when you have questions you should ask, when you want something done make it happen yourself.

3. Transparency and honesty: I personally don’t believe in manipulation or hidden agendas, I believe being honest with myself and with others have always helped me see weaknesses clearly and also build trust.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Understanding that every client, every industry and every team member is unique, has their own needs and their own motivations too. So understanding and managing expectations, aligning different views and also leading people to see the same vision is the most difficult and crucial part.
