Meet Five Fontaire

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Five Fontaire a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Five , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from all of the struggles that I’ve overcome in life and the influences surrounding them. Life often has its tests and challenges and our job is to overcome them through prayer and faith. My relationship with God has played the biggest part in my resilience. Knowing that He is always with me leading me and guiding me through my struggles is what helps me get through every challenge that I am faced with. My belief in Christ is my foundation and it keeps me stable when times are rough. Another place that I’ve gained resilience from is my mother. Watching my mother fight cancer while raising three children and running her own business was one of the biggest influences that I’ve had when it comes to resilience. Watching her get up every day and do her best despite how she felt inspired me to continue pressing forward regardless of how tough life became.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Five Fontaire and I am a 26 year old Rap/R&B recording artist coming from Philadelphia, PA. I began making music at the age of 12 years old after a friend of mine asked me to be in his music group “Swag Dream Team” I grew up as a church kid, singing in the choir and playing the drums so I had a musical background but I never created any of my own music until I accepted I offer to join the group. Once I began writing music of my own I fell in love with it and have been creating ever since. Everyone needs inspiration so every song that I create has a unique story behind it that is intended to uplift those who listen. Mixing the street life with my love life, I use these elements to create a melodic soundtrack to my life and my experiences. The ultimate goal for me is to create a community center in my neighborhood for kids in the city and use my influence to create a change.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three areas of knowledge and quality that were most impactful on my journey are my knowledge of God, knowledge of self and my ability to overcome obstacles that are thrown my way. All of these things help me to continue on my journey no matter what is thrown my way or how hard life becomes for me. All of these things have allowed me to build a solid foundation that serves as navigation on my journey through life’s ups and downs. The advice that I would give someone that is early in their journey is to spend time on learning yourself. Asses your strengths and learn your weaknesses and build upon those things.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

God has been helpful in helping me overcome challenges and building qualities needed to be successful. I talk about God a lot because he is the main source of help in my journey through life. He is a refiner so a lot of the challenges that he throws my way allow me to grow stronger and become wiser as I progress through life. All of these obstacles have brought out different aspects and characteristics in me that would not have been there had I not gone through what he put me through.
