Meet Flekz

We were lucky to catch up with Flekz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Flekz, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Resilience for me has been a necessity rather than a choice. Growing up as a first-generation immigrant in Los Angeles I learned early on that challenges weren’t obstacles, they were opportunities to grow. My journey into the art world wasn’t traditional. I started with graffiti, then transitioned into stencils, and ultimately developed my signature tape art style. Each step was a process of trial and error, pushing past limitations, and trusting my vision even when things didn’t go as planned.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a Los Angeles based artist specializing in large scale murals and intricate tape art. My work is rooted in freehand design, heavily influenced by sacred geometry, and created without the use of measurements. This approach gives each piece a unique flow while maintaining precision and depth. What excites me most about my work is the constant challenge of pushing the limits of tape as a medium. It is a material that is not traditionally used for fine art, yet I have found a way to transform it into something bold and visually striking.

Right now, I am excited for the work I am creating and the new directions I am exploring. I am always looking for ways to evolve, whether it is through commissioned pieces, public art projects, or collaborations that challenge me to think differently. My goal is to keep producing meaningful work that resonates with people and pushes artistic boundaries. I want my art to be more than just something people look at, I want it to be something they connect with.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three key qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are adaptability, patience, and creative problem-solving. Each of these has played a crucial role in shaping my growth as an artist and allowing me to push my work forward in ways I never imagined.

Adaptability has been essential because no two projects are ever the same. Whether it is working in different environments, using new materials, or facing unexpected challenges, I have learned to embrace change rather than resist it. For those just starting out, I’d say be open to experimenting. Do not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone because that is where real growth happens.

Patience has been just as important. Developing a unique style and building a career takes time. There were moments when things felt slow or uncertain, but I learned that consistency is what separates those who succeed from those who give up too soon. My advice is to trust your process, focus on improving every day, and understand that progress is not always immediate.

Lastly, creative problem-solving has allowed me to work through obstacles in both my art and career. Whether it is figuring out a new technique or handling logistical challenges on large projects, thinking outside the box has been a game-changer. For anyone looking to develop this skill, I recommend taking on challenges that force you to think differently. The more you practice solving problems in creative ways, the more confident you will become in tackling whatever comes your way.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am always open to collaborating with individuals and brands that align with my creative vision and push artistic boundaries. I enjoy working with people who bring fresh ideas, whether they are in the art world, design, architecture, fashion, or even industries that may not traditionally intersect with fine art. The most exciting collaborations happen when there is a shared passion for innovation and a willingness to explore new creative possibilities.

Right now, I am working with some incredible partners on projects that I am really excited about, and I am always looking for new opportunities to expand my work in different spaces. If you are interested in collaborating, whether it is for a mural, an art installation, or something completely unique, I would love to hear your ideas.
