Flor, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic has really been inspired by my father and seeing the effort he has put into creating his own company and raising it from the ground up. Honestly, I feel I’ve always been the kind of person to give what I do my all, and all the writers and authors I work with know that I really give them my all when it comes to their books because I genuinely believe in them and want to see them succeed. As a writer and author myself, I want to give my writers and authors the same love and effort that I would like to have.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a writer and creative, first and foremost, but I am also the founder and editor-in-chief of Indie Earth Publishing, a small hybrid co-publishing company that focuses on pushing forward the voices of emerging poets and writers. When I started my journey as a writer publishing her books, I was self-publishing and I saw the hardships that came with publishing all on your own without any help and guidance. I wanted to start something for my younger self and be able to help other emerging poets and writers feel like they can tackle releasing a poetry book or a work of fiction with support and guidance but without removing any creative freedom from the process.
Indie Earth Publishing, for me, is a chance to help writers and provide them support in releasing the poetry and fiction books of their dreams.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having gotten a degree in Journalism and minors in English Literature and Marketing were very helpful because they provided a lot of skills that I use in my day-to-day. Since I was also the copy editor of my university newspaper as well as an editor for the university literary magazine, I learned a lot about editing. Also, I have backgrounds in design and Photoshop that have helped me further excel in my creative pursuits and bring to fruition the wants of the authors and writers I work with. Having interned for a nonfiction publishing company after I graduated from university was very helpful as well.
My advice for folks who are early in their journey is to find a community where you will learn about things you need on your journey and where you can also share your knowledge with. I also encourage you to continue trying, even when you fail, and to keep going no matter how many times you fall down.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As a writer and also through Indie Earth Publishing, I am always looking for people who wish to collaborate!
As a writer, I love connecting with other writers and being able to share insights into the publishing industry as well as just feedback and support when it comes to published works or things that are in the works. You can connect with me personally through Instagram, at @littleearthflower
