Meet Floyd Junior Banks

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Floyd Junior Banks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Floyd Junior, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My family mostly. My mother use to take in people who had no home, she raised a lot of children who weren’t her own. Sometimes that turned out bad for her because people would take advantage of her and steal from her. Back then the minimum wage was only like $2.25 or something like that. A lot of people had no food and my mother would feed them. That’s where I get a lot of my generosity from, I think that’s it. Being around generous people and in my genes. My family had a big heart.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I like trees! One time I planted 70 thousand trees, they even did a Heartland Series on me; the name of it is The Pine Tree Man. I like to work with concrete, that’s one reason how the castle started. I’ve built a lot of houses over the years. Building stuff is my favorite, that’s about all I do, when I can.
I use to like to fish, but I don’t have time to fish anymore. Now working on the castle and meeting visitors is the most exciting part of my days.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having this drive is one quality I’ve always had. I’ve always been humble. And I have a lot of love for everybody.

Advice I have for others is you have to set your mind real good for what you strive for and work for it. You have to care about people. If you care about people they will care about you.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Old age is mostly the challenge I’m facing but so is everyone else. I try to make it the best I can. I’m just slower than I use to be but I still get stuff done it just takes me a little longer.
