Meet Folasade

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Folasade. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Folasade, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I’ve been blessed to have hardworking parents and family. My father is an immigrant from Jamaica and has provided a great life for me and my siblings. My mother is a professor and always taught me the value of education and the power of knowledge. I was always encouraged to dream big but to also be aware that to dream big also requires a lot of hard work. I can apply myself because I know Im on the right path that God has chosen for me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Folasade, originally from London,England but currently based in Los Angeles. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity of training since the age of four in musical theatre. I started my training at The Honyez school of dance in Kent, England and eventually moved to Alpharetta ,Georgia where I continued my training at Chambers performing arts. I was accepted to the American musical and dramatic academy (Los Angeles and New York campus) and graduated early with a BFA in musical theatre.

After the Covid pandemic required all colleges to shut down, I wrote my web series “Graduates: The Webseries”. It debuted on YouTube in August 2020. And has now amassed over 3,000 views on instagram and YouTube. I then released the teaser to my newest limited series “BIG SIX” on instagram and it amassed over 7,000 views! My newest project “Narcissist” will have a teaser released in October of 2023!

My next business venture is to start my own production company; Sade Morris productions. My production company will specialize in showcasing the diversity with the black community and hopes to encourage an array of black stories that showcase a vast representation of black voices. Studying performing arts in England and America has allowed me to see the talent of black writers and talent the world has yet to witness. My production company hopes to change that!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the qualities/skills that helped me on my journey were perseverance and my faith in God.

It takes a lot of money to produce a web series. I usually work 3 food industry jobs and free lance artistic work to produce “Graduates”. There are a lot of long days and it can be rather tiresome. But I always remember my goal and persevere through the many obstacles that are thrown my way.
I’m also a firm believer that God has made a way for me this far so I must be doing something correct. God has blessed me with great friends and family that encourage to keep going.

My advice would be to stay strong and ALWAYS pick yourself up when you fall. There will be mistakes but don’t beat yourself up over them. Always learn from your mistakes and move forward with a strong sense of self.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always open to collaborating with other creators. I believe that you can learn from watching someone else’s method of doing things. I am a solution- based individual and value others who practice the same ideology. There’s always going to be problems (I.e technically or socially) on a set because producing a project is unpredictable. But I believe always having a positive attitude will help move things along and solve any problems your set may have.
I also want my sets to be a safe place for actors and creators to explore and find new ways to express their creativity. It’s important for me that everyone on my set has a artistic voice in whatever we are creating.
