Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fossil Daddy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Fossil, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience comes from growing up in a chaotic, packed house where peace was a rare thing. With so much going on around me, I found that escaping into my own little world was often the only way to catch my breath. Those moments—just small bits of quiet I carved out for myself—became my way to stay steady when things outside felt too overwhelming. It’s prob why I value personal space above all else within my relationships in life.
Over time, I got used to finding that calm within, and it taught me to hold onto it, no matter what was happening. That habit stuck with me; now, whenever life gets rough, I know I can find my footing because I’ve had years of practice at making my own peace, even when I am at the center of drama or discourse (or a right-wing hate campaign as I often find myself in anytime I use my platform to uplift marginalized groups).
Resilience, for me, isn’t about always being strong. It’s about knowing that, even when things around me are falling apart, I can still find my way back to that steady place inside.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a Paleontologist with a passion for making science accessible to everyone. Through social media, I aim to introduce Paleontology to people who might not usually encounter it. I want to show that with just a little geological knowledge, the study of fossils and ancient life can be a fascinating and totally doable hobby. It’s incredible how something as simple as curiosity about our planet’s past can lead to such a meaningful and engaging experience.
I also run a YouTube channel, Foscel Daddy (https://www.youtube.com/@fosceldaddy), where I dive into the world of animation I love—or sometimes, love to critique. I cover everything from classic cartoons to newer shows, and I occasionally sprinkle in social commentary in a way that’s positive and lighthearted. My goal is to create a space that’s welcoming for people of all backgrounds, whether they’re into animation, Paleontology, or both, giving them fresh perspectives and a fun place to explore these interests.
Right now, I’m focused on growing my content and connecting with more people who share these passions. I’m working on new video series ideas, with plans for events and product launches that blend Paleontology and animation in fresh, creative ways. For me, the best part is seeing people feel inspired, whether it’s a newfound interest in fossils or a renewed appreciation for a favorite animated show. I want my content to be a place where people can feel curious, welcomed, and a little more connected to the world around them.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say three qualities and skills that made the biggest impact on my journey were resilience, creativity, and a genuine love for discovery. Growing up in a chaotic household taught me resilience—learning to find calm in the midst of noise and keeping my focus even when things felt overwhelming. This ability to adapt and press forward, no matter the circumstances, helped me build a strong foundation that I still rely on today. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say: challenges are inevitable, but learning to find your own inner balance and adapt to your environment is a skill that will serve you well throughout life.
Creativity has also played a huge role, especially in my work online. Being able to see connections between fields like Paleontology and animation, and then blending them into something engaging and accessible for a diverse audience, has allowed me to reach people who might not have been exposed to these areas otherwise. My advice? Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Explore how your interests can intersect in unique ways, and don’t worry about fitting into a specific mold—often, it’s the unique combinations of ideas that leave the biggest impact.
Finally, a love for discovery has been my fuel. Paleontology, for me, is about uncovering stories of the past, and through my content, I aim to spark that same curiosity in others. If you’re starting out, invest in developing your curiosity. Read widely, explore new topics, and don’t hesitate to dive into things that might be outside your comfort zone. The more you immerse yourself, the more you’ll find what truly excites you—and that excitement will be your driving force as you move forward.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I’m always interested in collaborating with creative minds, especially those who bring fresh perspectives that might be different from my own. As a queer brown man, I value diverse voices and experiences, and I’d love to work with people from marginalized communities who are interested in exploring science, animation, or social commentary in unique ways.
Whether you’re an artist, writer, content creator, or someone passionate about connecting people through shared interests, I think there’s so much we can create and learn together.
