Meet Fox Varian

We recently connected with Fox Varian and have shared our conversation below.

Fox, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I don’t think of myself as especially confident. My self esteem isn’t great either. It has been worse though. Auditioning is great exposure therapy. It forces you to show up over and over, you have to let yourself be seen and you will fail over and over. You build up a tolerance to it. I also think stubbornness can occasionally be a good substitute for confidence, and I have plenty of that.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Well, I primarily consider myself to be an actress. I’m drawn to a wide range of characters and genres, but I tend to thrive most playing intense, emotionally layered roles.
Coming up next for me is the release of Clownspiracy, which is especially meaningful for me because it’s my first feature film -and I’m starring in it as well!
Being a part of it has been so incredibly rewarding. The film carries a strong sense of nostalgia, while still feeling very timely and relevant and I think that balance is what makes it special. I believe it’s a story that will really resonate with people and I’m very excited for people to finally see it.

I’ve also been writing a lot more this year. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I had fallen out of doing it for quite some time. Right now, I’m mainly writing a feature length script. I won’t say too much right now, but it’s a little bit sci-fi, maybe a little bit horror-ish story about a group of highschool students in a small town.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Gonna be honest with you here, I’ve no idea how I’m doing it. I just love doing it. The acting, I mean. I think my advice is to follow your heart, which I know is cliche but I believe it to be true.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I typically go for a walk or write. I find walking to be grounding and it clears my head, whereas writing gives me a place to sort through my thoughts. It doesn’t necessarily have to be journaling or anything like that, although that can help too. I’ve found writing fiction really helps me to process emotions that would feel to overwhelming otherwise.
Occasionally, I’ll even ask for help.
