Meet Francesca Johnson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Francesca Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Francesca , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from an innate place in my soul that thrives on giving. I love what I do so much, and each transformation is as incredible as the last. Each person who sits in my chair is truly beautiful and unique, and giving them the gift of beauty and education for them to recreate their looks at home fuels my passion more than they could ever know. I feel like giving is so important because of how much I receive. Whether someone is seeking full glam, or just tips on an everyday look, I am always grateful for them to share their beauty with me. This work truly fills my cup and, because of that, I am inspired to give as much as possible.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As an artist, I specialize in bridal makeup, photo shoots, and makeup lessons, but I am available for any makeup needs. I also love supporting photo shoots with model sourcing, wardrobe styling, and photo direction. I’ve been lucky to work with a long list of companies, and I am excited for each shoot to begin! Regardless of the service, I create a comfortable environment for everyone, whether it is their very first makeup experience or one of many.

As an entrepreneur, my passion stems from recognizing the true beauty in everyone. I have developed skills and techniques to highlight that natural beauty at any age, and make it shine through. I have worked to beautify people for the past 35 years, and the transformations still amaze me.

Throughout my career I have been fortunate enough to have a wide range of experiences, and I am grateful for each one. One standout experience in my career was when I had the opportunity to combine my enthusiasm for a transformation with my professional passion for photo shoots by doing makeup for TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress. A friend and fellow entrepreneur, Zoey, was going to be highlighted on the show, and because of my combination of skills, makeup and commercial photography, I was lucky enough to support her. While this truly felt like a once in a lifetime experience, I am fortunate to get moments like this in all of the photo shoots I participated in today. Whether you’re updating your family photos, rebranding your business, or celebrating a life milestone, I would love to be there to provide a perfect makeup look for your special moment that will be captured for a lifetime.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

For many years, I was a one-woman show, and while I was absolutely proud of my achievements, it was holding me back to attempt to do everything myself. When I realized how much I could grow by hiring others to not only help, but teach me new things, while also learning from me, it was a true breakthrough. I would tell others early on in their journey, that accepting that you cannot do it all yourself will be a freeing, and empowering moment. We are always looking for teachable, passionate artists to join us!

Secondly, hiring a business coach was a very pivotal moment for me. Working with Rachel at Root Strength Consulting has helped me grow significantly. Knowing that there is someone else who will require me to be vulnerable and face the challenges for my business has been a huge help. She also sees areas of my business that have huge potential and has provided new areas of opportunity, like teaching makeup technique classes in salons. My consultant is patient and supportive, while keeping me honest, which has made a huge improvement in the organization and direction of my business. This makes it possible for me to focus on what will best support me and my business today, and in the future. For those early on in their journey, I strongly suggest hiring a business consultant sooner, rather than later!

Lastly, I have learned to feel the fear and do it anyway. Every time I do something new that scares me, I push myself to overcome the challenge and meet it head on. This was something that I developed early, and have stayed committed to throughout my 35 years of experience. Early on, I worked with NBC15 many times, and each time, I was incredibly nervous, and I did it anyway. I got better, every single time. I am constantly challenging myself to do things that are new, and this keeps me excited, engaged, and connected to an ever changing beauty industry. For those just starting out, do things that scare you- often! This will truly help you grow and ultimately feel more powerful.

How would you describe your ideal client?

I love working with a huge range of people, and I am in awe of how much beauty there is in all of my clients. Recently, I participated in a campaign highlighting women over 50, and I was so excited to showcase the empowerment that can come with aging. I love sharing this power with women who may be noticing some changes, but are as gorgeous as they were at any younger age. While the variety in my career is something that I really love, I am having a great time teaching women about how to highlight their beauty later in life.
