We were lucky to catch up with Francy Chirinos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Francy, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re very focused on here – improving our ability to make decisions. Everyday, we’re faced with decisions that can impact the future of our careers, businesses, relationships and more and so one of the most impactful areas for personal development, in our view, is decision-making. Can you talk to us about how you developed or improved your decision-making skills?
I grew up in a home where we were encouraged to be responsible, pay attention to each of our activities and give quality to everything we did. I grew up in an environment full of joy and positive values. However, in my teens I began to behave erratically and fail in my studies, which was not tolerated by my parents. My parents always teach me and my siblings that every action has consequences, therefore we must think before acting. At that time, because of having failed the 9th grade of high school, they decided that I would not have a vacation.
During those summer seasons I had to serve my family in everything and take care of the housework while my brothers, who had passed their school year, had a great time enjoying themselves. That was very sad, frustrating as well as sobering.
That time gives me to reflect on the terrible personal consequences that our behavior can have. The fact that this happened to me when I was just 15 years old helped me understand that everything that was going to happen for the rest of my life was going to depend on the decisions I would make from now on. The punishment received helped me understand the coherence that must exist between the decisions we make and what we want to obtain in the immediate future, or in the medium and long term. From this moment on, I began to perceive that making the right decisions progressively changed my course towards a life full of blessings and success.
I had in my hands one of the keys to success: discovering the strong connection between our decisions and the results we obtain.
This event was an awakening to a reality in which it was I who had to take control of my life and not the other way around. I noticed that I could have more control of my situations, as well as the things that happened to me. I understood that he was able to evaluate the situations and their possible consequences and then decide which of the options led me to the results he wanted.
I progressively improved my ability to make decisions, to the point of leading me to also develop my leadership skills. Thanks to this ability I have been able to get ahead in the difficulties in life and take advantage of the opportunities that have been presented to me.
My experience that summer is a sample of how small lessons mark us for a lifetime. In my case, it has already been four decades putting into practice and improving the knowledge acquired in my adolescence.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As Executive Leadership Coach my passion is helping people lead their productive lives and their businesses. I have 30 years of experience, I received a doctorate in Management and a post-doctorate in Organizational Management, I am a researcher in Business Leadership. This qualification allowed me to discover the importance of strengthening our essence as a leader to transcend everything we do. Considering this position for our lives truly allows us to be prosperous and, therefore, be beneficiaries of every productive action we perform.
In my work I receive entrepreneurs, professionals and businessmen who wish to learn or improve leadership traits as well as organizational and management skills for their businesses and jobs.
I currently offer Business Leadership Training, where participants manage to discover their personal leadership and business management skills. This course is a great success, and together with my partner Lorena Ferrer Cordon we plan to continue expanding the impact of this training. To register you just have to contact me through my social networks to receive more information.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Cultivating patience has been one of my biggest challenges, and I think I have made progress in it, because I have understood that each decision has its time to be made. Achieving this quality has also made me an assertive and analytical person who seeks to respond wisely to everything. These characteristics have even helped me to know how to assume those results that have not been as expected and that could be considered negative at first sight. Thanks to this conscious walk in my life, I also like to support people to develop themselves by strengthening their personal leadership and decision-making.
At this point, I could advise people who are beginning their journey to assess themselves with affection and care. Specifically, you would give them what I consider to be 5 basic tips for life: 1. Clearly identify the values that govern their lives, 2. Set the limits of their own behavior, 3. Visualize how they want to be in the next 10 years of their life. life or at a specific age in their future, and 4. Establish how it will be achieved and 5. Become leaders in their own process.
Life is short and messy; therefore, it requires that we give it the shape we want. To achieve this, we take the supplies that she herself makes available to us.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Every book I’ve read has left something important in me to become a better person and professional. However, I can highlight the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. Their contributions are revealing for the knowledge of their own emotions and the emotions of other people. Through its chapters, it teaches us how they work and how we can handle them in a positive way in order to facilitate our personal peace, as well as interpersonal relationships and the achievement of goals. This book together with the titled Social Intelligence, written by the same author, have provided me with many insights to maintain a good character and be more understanding with other people.
