Meet Frankie Cat

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frankie Cat a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Frankie , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Keeping my creativity alive in photography is all about regularly feeding my curiosity, challenging myself, and allowing room for experimentation. New environments can trigger fresh ideas, but photographing the mundane in a new light can also keep things alive.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I have a passion for photography and enjoy capturing the world around me. Whether it’s nature, clouds, insects, or food, I love taking pictures of various subjects. I also write for the local newspaper, and I especially enjoy when I can photograph something that complements my articles perfectly.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Having patience is an important quality to possess. I don’t just take a random assortment of pictures; instead, I take my time and usually capture my perfect photo in one snap. Discover where your passion lies; if you have a specific interest, focus on that. It really helps to enjoy what you are doing.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

One of the most significant things my parents did for me was to support my interest in photography. They allowed me the freedom to explore it without any pressure, providing encouragement along the way. They even bought me my first camera, a Kodak Brownie, which I still have. Yes, I am that old. They also purchased film for me over the years with my different cameras and covered the costs of developing the film. Their unwavering support meant a lot to me.
