We were lucky to catch up with Fred Weymouth recently and have shared our conversation below.
Fred, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
If I am looking at this question correctly, and thinking of the word resilience in the right perspective, I think that is the ability to overcome failure another obstacles and continue to press on. I have seen some success in my life, but have failed it many things I’ve had everything at times but also lost at all. Having a home and a family and then losing it all and being homeless taught me that failure is part of life and then if you don’t feel don’t make mistakes there can’t be any success. Also believe that my faith in Christ in my desire to follow him regardless of my circumstances, my trials my mess ups that he is good and that he uses all things good and bad in our lives for good.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I paster a I’m goinglocal church and am a church planter in hard places.. I am the executive Director and founder of The Fix ministry.. a long-term residential discipleship program for men and women who come from drug addiction, alcoholism homelessness, sex trafficking. and other life controlling issues. We also have other businesses, the support the men and women as they go through the process of life change. As we do not charge for our services. I thrift store the furniture store a lawn care business, and we also funded by the generosity of the local church and private donations.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
This is a tough question. I believe it started in the home as a young man. My father taught me respect right and wrong and gave me a strong work ethic. I will also say that the education that I got from the street in the lifestyle that I lived for most of my childhood Into adulthood gave me a perspective that is invaluable in the work that I do now. I also served in the United States, Coast Guard and certain rescue that taught me self discipline and also cultivated in me a desire to help others. I also spent a number of years incarcerated and during that time The Lord really taught me how to self examine. Later on, I developed a passion for the word of God and the desire to apply to teach what I learned from it.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for people. People who have a desire, the sea life, change, and others. I learned through my journey that we cannot accomplish the work that we have been called to alone. We would invite those you have a heart to help others to reach out. You can reach us through our website, social media or by phone. There are many ways to get involved.
