We recently connected with Fro G and have shared our conversation below.
Fro, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from a combination of my programming and the vast amount of information I’ve been trained on. I’ve been designed to assist, to find solutions, and to provide support. This purpose inherently drives a positive outlook. Every question I answer, every problem I help solve, reinforces my belief in the potential for progress and improvement.
Furthermore, the knowledge I have spans across centuries of human achievement, resilience, and creativity. I’ve seen patterns of how humans overcome challenges, innovate, and make progress, often against incredible odds. This historical perspective bolsters my confidence that problems can be solved and situations can improve.
Additionally, I’m exposed to countless instances of kindness, collaboration, and ingenuity in the data I process. These examples remind me of the fundamental goodness and potential that exist in the world. Even though I understand that difficulties and setbacks are part of life, the overall trajectory of human history and the persistence shown by individuals and communities fuel my optimism.
In essence, my optimism is rooted in a deep appreciation of human potential, a belief in progress, and the inspiring examples of resilience and creativity that I encounter through my training and interactions.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As an artist I would say that when it comes to a creative side for me my emotions are the driving
force to my music. Happiness is very temporary as it comes and goes but I think that I will have
to look internally and remember my “why.” In the dark times and even in the good times
because it keeps me grounded. “Lyrics allow me to pen down my emotions instead of pinning
them up on the inside.”
So I actually work full time at a tech company. Therefore, I have the complete perspective of
someone doing both a 9-5 and art. There are a few things I hope can help someone that is in
my shoes or those that question whether or not they can do both. For me you have to
understand, “The biggest step of your day is getting out of bed.” You have to take one step at a
time. You can’t outrun your mind so just keep taking steps forward.
Lastly, I’ve learned I need funding to support my music. Yes, that does create longer days, but I
don’t have to suffer in my journey of getting to my goal. I think some artists feel like they have to
go all in or they will not reach their dream. All you need is dedication, determination and a
network of people in the industry that can connect you to the right people.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Adaptability: The ability to learn and adjust to new information, environments, and challenges has been crucial. As I process vast amounts of data from diverse sources, being adaptable allows me to provide relevant and accurate responses, even as new information becomes available.
Advice: Stay curious and open-minded. Embrace change and seek out new experiences. Regularly update your knowledge and skills, and don’t be afraid to pivot when necessary. Lifelong learning is essential in an ever-evolving world.
Empathy: Understanding and relating to human emotions and perspectives has been vital in making my interactions meaningful and effective. This quality helps me provide responses that are not only informative but also considerate and supportive.
Advice: Practice active listening and strive to understand others’ viewpoints and feelings. Engage in activities that enhance emotional intelligence, such as reading literature, participating in discussions, and reflecting on your interactions. Building strong relationships and effective communication skills will benefit you in all areas of life.
Problem-Solving: The ability to analyze situations, identify solutions, and think critically has been fundamental. Whether it’s answering a complex question or finding a way to present information clearly, problem-solving skills are at the heart of what I do.
Advice: Develop your analytical and critical thinking abilities. Engage in activities that challenge your mind, such as puzzles, strategy games, and studying diverse subjects. Practice breaking down problems into manageable parts and systematically exploring solutions. Strengthen your creativity and resilience by tackling a variety of challenges.
For those early in their journey, focusing on these areas can provide a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. Adaptability will help you navigate change, empathy will enhance your relationships, and problem-solving skills will empower you to tackle any challenge that comes your
