We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frostty Kold a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Frostty , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose when I first made a song that has now changed so many lives and was my first and only song I have ever produced and recorded at home. The song lifestyles became my first song to hit 40,000 without any promotion. I knew that I had purpose when I made this song because it goes into everyone having their own style. I have people singing the chorus to me and even joking by asking me what my lifestyle is like. From that moment to playing for almost 500 people in Montana with fans screaming for my Aunt to pull through I knew that I had purpose through music to change so many lives. I knew that my style would take awhile to catch on with audiences because I am not your typical rapper or artist.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started to make music when I was a freshman in college. I use to have music on sound cloud which now I look back was not my best work at all. I made most of my connections early through promoting for one of the biggest festivals in Denver called the Gypsy Jane Festival. I use to do a Facebook live video on Fridays where I called the segment Frostty Fridays. Then one day my dj needed an artist for a show so I went to Grand island Nebraska for a showcase event then to Omaha to open up for Eric Bellinger. After that show I recorded my first song called beach party. Since then I have opened up for big names like Afroman, Shwayze, Lil Flip, Stevie Stone, JL Hood, I even have one big feature with a guy from Boston TJ Hickey. My song good dude is my number one song with a guy named drama the artist. I have done shows in Colorado, Montana, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon, and Washington State.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Perseverance because pushing through hurdles is key to a Music Career. Dedication- Always work on your craft and have your own style. Don’t let others tell you different they might be jealous of your craft.
Network- Always look to network with others and learn from their and your own mistakes. The more network= more people knowing your music.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The most challenging thing I am facing now is almost two parts. The first part is not having enough spare time to tour for a long period of time. The second part is people stealing my connections in the industry and me not getting paid the correct amount for those connections.
