We were lucky to catch up with Fryderyk HD recently and have shared our conversation below.
Fryderyk, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I have always tried to walk through my life with a smile and I imagine it’s a viral thing. I always see a bright side to everything, no matter how bad things get. Through that I get resilience in many things that I do like composing music and realizing projects which is obviously not an easy task for a DIY artist. Keeping optimistic view on life has helped me greatly in my life as a fulfilled musician. In some way it feels like a loop – if I’m able to create and share music with the world, the outcome is me feeling happy and satisfied which gives me motivation to create further projects.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an artist from Poland, of Vietnamese heritage. I began music education at the age of 6, starting with classical repertoire. Having finished a Master’s degree in Sound Engineering, I decided to follow an artistic path concentrating on contemporary and jazz music. Having graduated from Berklee College of Music, currently I work as a performer, arranger, music director with some of the projects being Grammy nominated albums.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I value the most my critical thinking skills and trying to think outside the box. As a musician, throughout my education and career I have focused greatly on technical and strictly musical skills. However, developing business and marketing skills is equally important in order to build a long and sustainable career and it’s something that you can learn best in professional practice, outside any schools or classrooms.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Currently I’m trying to find more opportunities with film-makers or composing for theater stages. I love creating music in context with other artists as this feels more like collective work.
