We were lucky to catch up with Gabby Dent recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabby , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
i’ve always been a bit of a risk taker especially when it comes to something i really want. i kind of just dive in head first without thinking and just hope for the best. i have a really amazing support system from my family to close friends as well that i know i can always count on and that also makes taking risks much easier when you know you have support at all angles.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a hairstylist specializing in dry haircuts & styling. i’ve always loved making people feel good about themselves so it’s so special being able to have a direct hand in someone’s look. hair is so important to most people and when you have the ability to help them change their look or teach them about their hair it’s an amazing feeling. i’m always looking to build my books/clientele so i always welcome people to reach out to me on instagram if they have any questions whether it’s about getting a haircut, what products to use or even just styling hair in general.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
willingness to learn, communication, & adaptability were and still are the most impactful qualities and skills i’ve learned and continued to use on my journey in the hair world. you have to be open to everything that comes your way whether it’s critique/criticism or even the good stuff like being extremely busy and booked. you have to know your limits and always believe in yourself and remember that you can always grow and be better and if you have those 3 skills under your belt, you’ll be unstoppable.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
becoming overwhelmed is very easy for me as i put so much of myself into what i do so any kind of setback will make me question my whole existence. but at the end of the day if you know you are trying your best and doing everything you can then it will always be ok and work out. the best way for me to recenter is i take a step back and remind myself that i am human and being perfect is impossible & sometimes you just gotta breathe
