Meet Gabe M

We recently connected with Gabe M and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabe, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Staying hopeful can be quite a challenge in the realm of DIY artists and musicians. However, it’s crucial to remind yourself that your journey in this world is fueled by a genuine passion for music rather than seeking fame, praise, or wealth. Personally, my optimism is nurtured by the sheer joy of unleashing my creativity. It’s about the thrill of connecting with others through a heartfelt lyric or a chord that resonates deeply. My optimism is rooted in a sincere affection for music, as I’m aware that out there, someone might find solace or inspiration through my musical expressions.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hey there, I’m Gabe M, a music enthusiast hailing from the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, and I go by the moniker Holy Colors. Let’s rewind a bit to 2018 – a year that truly put me to the test. It felt like I was dancing on the edge of rock bottom, and sometimes, I even stumbled right into it. I vividly remember those three months when it seemed like rain was my constant companion, pouring down on both the world outside and within me.

During my self-imposed exile from the hustle and bustle, an incredible transformation was underway. Music became my lifeline, my connection to the outside world. It started with just one song, a reflection of my pain and emotions. Then, like a floodgate had opened, three songs turned into seven, all raw and unfiltered expressions of my journey. Those very songs came together to shape my debut EP, a collection I aptly named “This Is Not An Exit.”

Originally, I dreamt of being a homegrown musician, crafting melodies from the comfort of my apartment, sharing my tunes on streaming platforms, and spreading the word through social media. But you know what they say – life loves to throw unexpected surprises. A single live performance ignited a fiery passion within me, and now, the stage calls my name like a siren song.

As my musical journey continued, I found myself weaving stories into the fabric of different seasons. I conjured up “Autumnal,” a spirited ensemble of Halloween-themed tracks, and got into the festive spirit with “Christmas Colors.” Along the way, I dropped singles and even brought forth my very first full-length album, “Far Away Places.” This masterpiece was meticulously crafted, with the talented Brooks Paschal of Sullivan and Surprises adding his magic touch through production, mixing, and mastering.

And guess what? The journey doesn’t stop there. Currently, I’m knee-deep in a whirlwind of creativity. I’m in the process of reimagining and re-releasing my debut EP, “This Is Not An Exit,” infusing it with new life and energy. Simultaneously, I’m forging ahead, creating brand-new melodies that are destined to meet your ears in the near future.

So, there you have it – the story of how I went from a rainy retreat to a stage-struck musician, pouring my heart into melodies that resonate with both the world and myself. Stick around, because this musical adventure is far from over!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
You know, looking back at my journey, there are three things that really stand out as game-changers. First and foremost, it’s all about trusting your gut and following your instincts. Especially in those early days of songwriting, you’ll find moments where your creativity takes off, and a song starts to take shape. But then, inevitably, doubt sneaks in, and you hit a rough patch where things feel off. In those moments, I learned the power of trusting that inner voice – it’s like your musical compass. Sometimes, it means making tweaks or changes to the song’s structure, and that’s okay. It’s a bit like riding a wave – you have to ride out those dips to catch the highs.

Now, let’s talk about focus – a tough nut to crack, let me tell you. I went through years of being all over the place, crafting interesting song parts, only to abandon them the next day for something new. It’s a whirlwind that can easily suck you in. The key is consistency. Stick to your guns and see your project through, whether you’re completely satisfied with it or not. Finishing a song, even if it’s not perfect, teaches you so much and builds resilience. It’s like putting the final puzzle piece in place, even if the picture isn’t exactly what you envisioned.

And then, there’s this golden nugget of wisdom: not giving a damn about what others might think. Trust me, this one’s a game-changer. My first EP was a mix of raw vulnerability and, well, let’s just say it had some technical imperfections. But you know what? Releasing it in all its imperfect glory was an essential step. It helped me toughen up and grow as a musician. Sure, not everything was smooth sailing, but amidst the rough edges, there were shining moments. My instrumental track, “She Waits by Water,” got a fantastic review and even landed a sweet little feature on an indie website called Music Dances While You Sleep.

So, to all you fellow journey-starters out there, here’s the scoop: trust your gut, ride those creative waves, stay the course and finish what you start, and above all, wear your imperfections proudly. Your unique journey will take you to places you never imagined, and you’ll discover treasures along the way that you didn’t even know were there. Keep your head up and your heart in the music – and who knows, you might just surprise yourself.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Right now, my main hurdle is this balancing act between my full-time job and keeping that creative fire burning bright. You see, music is like a constant companion in my thoughts – whether it’s brewing up new concepts, scribbling down lyrics, or tinkering with my songs. By the time I’m back home, I’m all geared up to dive into my musical world, but here’s the kicker – the energy tank sometimes has a serious case of “empty.”

Picture this: you’re bursting with creative ideas, yet you’re dragging the weight of the workday behind you. It’s like wanting to rock the stage, but your body’s already staging a mutiny. But hey, where there’s a will, there’s a way. I’m determined to give this challenge a run for its money.

So, here’s my secret sauce – I’m turning into a tiredness ninja. Yep, you heard me right. I’m learning to tap into that extra ounce of energy when I need it the most. Pushing past the “I-just-want-to-crash” feeling and harnessing the sheer willpower to pick up that guitar, scribble those notes, and bring my musical dreams to life.

But that’s not all – I’m also embracing the art of squeezing every drop of free time like it’s a rare and precious elixir. Those fleeting moments when the clock’s on my side? You bet I’m putting them to good use. I’m determined not to let even a second slip through my fingers. It’s all about making each note count, even when the minutes are short.
