Meet Gabriela Miranda

We were lucky to catch up with Gabriela Miranda recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

When I moved to the US I thought I was not going to be able to succeed professionally. I studied law in Peru and got a bachelor’s degree that I thought it was going to be useless. When I arrived here, the first thing I’ve noticed was that my English was a little bit behind and that I needed to keep up. I couldn’t work for 5 months and meanwhile I became a bookworm! Found ESL classes and went to college here for a semester. I put a lot of effort in try to learn and be ready to look for the corporate job I dreamed of once my work permit arrives. I tried to just hear my voice and work hard to accomplish my dreams.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I moved to the States at 27 years old and was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I’m a lawyer in Peru and I’m willing to take the same path here in the States. I’m also a content creator and show in my platforms how is my live as a Latina living abroad, and also show my whole process of getting a corporate job in the legal field.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Self stem, confidence and bravery. Those 3 topics were really impactful in my journey and had to work on them to improve and achieve my goals. If I don’t believe in myself and on what I can do, nobody’s going to. I really like the phrase: “fake it till you make it”, and that was my mantra for getting into my corporate job and start working as a legal assistant and now as a paralegal. When you move abroad, is hard to believe in yourself and see the qualities and skills that you have that made you special. Being bilingual and being Latina, is a super power for me. It really helped me to get where I am now and it’s one of my biggest strengths.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

I feel that I’ve grown a lot in different areas of my life in the last 12 months. I moved to a different country and had to adapt to this new life and start all over again. I got married, made new friends, found a new job and live far away from home. I would say adaptability is my word for the last year and that’s something I really had to work on.
