We were lucky to catch up with Gabrieline Reece recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gabrieline , so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
So, as a film producer and creative writer like yourself, I totally get where you’re coming from. Dealing with creativity blocks can be super frustrating, but I’ve found a few strategies that have really helped me overcome them.
First off, I’ve learned not to force it. Sometimes, trying too hard to be creative can actually backfire. So when I hit a wall, I give myself permission to step away and do something completely unrelated for a bit. Whether it’s going for a walk, doing some yoga, or even just taking a nap, giving my brain a break often helps me come back to my work with fresh ideas.
Another thing that’s been huge for me is surrounding myself with inspiration. Whether it’s watching movies, reading books, or checking out art galleries, exposing myself to different forms of creativity always seems to get my own creative juices flowing again.
And lastly, I’ve learned to embrace the process. Creativity isn’t always a smooth ride, and that’s okay. I try to remember that even the most successful writers and producers have their off days. So instead of getting down on myself when I hit a block, I try to see it as just another part of the journey.
Overall, I’ve found that a combination of giving myself a break, seeking out inspiration, and embracing the ups and downs of creativity has helped me beat those pesky blocks more times than not. Hope these tips help you out too!

Reflecting on my journey with Women Who Influence, I would say that three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been particularly impactful.
Empathy and Understanding: Being able to empathize with the challenges faced by nonprofits and understanding their needs has been crucial. This quality has allowed us to tailor our services to best support them and build strong, trusting relationships. To develop empathy, actively listen to others, seek to understand different perspectives, and put yourself in their shoes. Engage in conversations with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences to broaden your understanding of others’ needs and challenges.
Expertise in Fundraising and Strategic Planning: Our proficiency in strategic fundraising and program evaluation has been essential in helping nonprofits secure funding and establish sustainable initiatives. This expertise has enabled us to develop effective fundraising campaigns and strategies that align with our clients’ goals. To build expertise, invest time in learning about fundraising techniques, donor relations, and strategic planning. Take advantage of resources such as workshops, online courses, and mentorship opportunities to deepen your knowledge in these areas. Additionally, stay updated on industry trends and best practices to ensure your strategies remain effective.
Collaboration and Team Building: Building a strong team and fostering a collaborative work environment has been instrumental in our success. For those early in their journey, my advice would be to prioritize these qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge. Invest in building expertise in your field, whether it’s fundraising, marketing, or program development, to provide valuable solutions and insights. Prioritize collaboration and team building to leverage the strengths of your team members and achieve shared goals more effectively.
Remember that growth and development take time, so be patient with yourself and stay committed to continuous learning and improvement. And most importantly, stay true to your values and purpose, as they will guide you through the challenges and triumphs of your journey.
