Gabriella, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I have always been more of a realist than an optimist but ever since starting my own business it has forced me to become more optimistic. There are so many challenges and obstacles to overcome when running a small studio that it’s very important to keep a positive outlook to achieve your goals.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I founded Idda Studio four years ago, a design studio focused on limited edition fabrics and objects. I have always been a painter and started Idda Studio as a way to bring my paintings to life in a new way. Influenced by my experience growing up in Sicily and inspired by the Mediterranean’s natural scenery, Roman mythology, and traditional decorative arts, the studio aims to capture these elements through thoughtful designs.
For each fabric collection, I paint each design to scale on paper before transferring them onto high quality silk, cotton, and linen fabrics sourced from Italy. All our creations are limited edition, suitable for both wearing and enhancing home interiors. Since launching our fabric collection, Idda Studio has grown to work on bespoke fashion collections, limited edition product designs and custom interior projects

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I studied painting and have always been practicing art my whole life, however upon graduating from art school, I decided to work in the art and design world in the business and marketing side. Spending years working for successful institutions, galleries and art fairs really helped me learn important skills when starting my own business. I value that time and having had the opportunity to work with a range of different types of businesses before going off on my own. Since starting my own design studio, I am thankful that I have built a strong network and community that I can collaborate with professionally.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Collaboration is a very important part of my studio practice. I love working with different brands and individuals because it gives me the opportunity to create in a different way. I have worked with fashion brands like Lisa Says Gah, creating bespoke print designs for their clothing collections, as well as homeware brands like BedThreads, designing limited edition pillows and plates. I also often work with event planners on creating custom stationary and tableware for weddings, as well as create original illustrations for publications, and collaborate with interior designers on bespoke upholstery and wallpaper collections. I am always looking to collaborate on fun projects.
